“We have the need to be accepted and to be loved by others, but we cannot accept and love ourselves. The more self-love we have, the less we will experience self-abuse. Self-abuse comes from self-rejection, and self-rejection comes from having an image of what it means to be perfect and never measuring up to that ideal. Our image of perfection is the reason we reject ourselves the way we are, and why we don't accept others the way they are.” -- Don Miguel Ruiz

“The maxim ‘Nothing but perfection’ may be spelled ‘Paralysis.’” -- Winston Churchill

“After enough mirror gazing, we all develop our ‘cosmic sense of humor.’ We no longer try to be perfect, or try to get all our work done in time. We become content with whatever life brings. Just to deal with what comes up without crucifying ourselves or others is enough of a challenge.” -- Paul Ferrini

“Good enough never is.” -- Debbi Fields

Truth. The whole 'mote in the eye' idea. One of the most powerful questions we can learn to ask is "What's my part in this" - In problem situations it can help us avoid blaming others, in celebretory situations it can help us see that we too are whole, complete and perfect - just as we are.

Silence its the only possible retreat that could be considered uniquely ours... a place to contemplate approximately life, a place to handle what to do, a place for notion. As a Tai-Chi instructor I a while fill the silence with the information of my very very own life interior the workout of normal guided movements, waves of information as a calm sea attaining the coastline.

I don't really understand the first. It seems akin to the popular psychology bit about self-esteem that I have reservations about. The other three are right on, in my book. I teach drawing and tell the students that once they are satisfied with themselves and their level of accomplishment, they've basically quit the game. And quiting because you are not far enough along is false sense of failure, because we all deal with the same frustrations.

(((Kallan))) Yes, I believe there is alot of truth to this. I think for the most part we take ourselves way too seriously. Pride really enters into this but, a false pride. I love what St. Theresa of Avila used to say "Lord save us from long faced nuns". She herself was a nun but, she found herself up against people who wanted to become a Saint that the Lord already had and not become one who he meant for them to be.

It all comes down to the fact that we need to love and respect ourselves, before we can love and respect others.

I think its all hog wash. We should just strive to be whoever God created us to be. We should be happy in who/what we are. There is no pie in the sky folks!!!!! Just do the best you can and let God do the rest. He promised he would.

Love is an emotion. People think of love in many different ways.

The word Love is from Old English lufu, connected with Sanskrit lubh, "to desire" and Latin lubere, "to please".

Don't take life too seriously, at which point (of course) you need to start taking it seriously.
