My dog is "talking" back to me lately when he is being disciplined or when I give him a command such as sit or stay. It is a whine and a grunting sound. I have tried the "no speak" command it works for about four seconds and then he starts back up with the whining, moaning or grunting sounds. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get him to stop talking back to me? Anything will help. Thanks

I have heard dogs do this for 2 reasons:

1. Tired of conflicting commands

2. Pain - time to go to the vet.

It's not normal. I have yelled at my mother and father. Nevertheless it's only when they're nagging me and attacking me. I do it in self-defense alone. I am dependable and have my act in gear. My youngest brother is an extra story. It's your moms and dads' fault for now not disciplining him. I will take a wager at why they didn't on account that it is rough work. It can be onerous. I'm a step mom and i don't like having to discipline my step youngsters, which fortunately doesn't happen customarily. It is mentally and physically draining. It is less difficult to just let matters go but that is not in their nice interest for the explanations you're pronouncing. They get into actual challenge in a while. It's a present for the moms and dads to not self-discipline however no longer the youngsters. Of direction it might probably go the other way too - too much discipline. That can lead to real problems as good. There has to be a balance and it can be hard for many folks to search out it. You're 23. You don't need to put up with it. I might limit contact together with your brother. You are not in a position of authority with him. There isn't much you can do. Your mother and father don't seem to be going to be capable to do so much at this point as I appreciate. I still believe they will have to are trying though. Nevertheless it's rough work and they'll need to be consistent and compromise more. Edit: For me, I do not know how you can control what my mom and dad throw at me on get together. It occurs hardly ever now. Once more, it is now not like i am irresponsible and inconsiderate. I am very accountable and really thoughtful. I'm accommodating. I am effortless to get along with. I'm no longer cussed. Edit: Counseling could in all probability support your mom and dad and brother. It is going to take work on all of them although. They need to be fairly dedicated to changing. It is extremely tough. If they aren't unhappy sufficient or committed adequate then it will now not work. My husband's family is dysfunctional. They went to counseling and it was once worthless. They're stubborn. They'll not exchange or compromise. That's fairly his dad. His dad thinks he did nothing incorrect. He was once very strict and very harsh. He nonetheless is. He has terrible relationships together with his sons accordingly.

most likely the "teenage" stage as said above. all that means is you need to enforce what you ask. for example, you ask for "sit" and he just shuffles and whines, then gently place him in a sit position and praise him. you have to stick to your guns.

but i do warn, it is important that you are sure your dog -actually- understands what you are asking him to do. if not, restart your training a few steps back.

for the most part, the whining should be ignored (as long as you know nothing is physically wrong with him) - basically pretend like he isnt even doing it.

also, just a note ...if he knows the command "speak" as meaning to make noise....then saying "no speak" will either confuse him or make him speak. try teaching him a different word for being quiet...like "quiet". for example, ask him to "speak" and then in a quick, firm voice say "quiet". after he hushes for a few seconds, reward him (treats, praise, whatever, just dont get him over excited.)_

You have to "talk" back at him even more then. Disciplining means an action that is strict. If you are lenient with him, he will just take you for granted - challenge you to show who is the alpha male.

My dog used to be like that and every time he talks back, then I'd speak up louder "QUIET!", he listens. If he talks back still, I'd just take up a rolled newspaper and hit the floor to get him at full attention.

wow...I have small dogs who whine they dont get what they want...i startle them...spritz water on them, make a loud noise you can constantly use and give command...being repetitive really helps...if you say sit..place hand on butt push down repeat command....then after a few seconds of doing so reward but keep doing it, or they wont get it..remember keep walking them
