That's a pretty cut-and-dry answer.
First off all, most serious injuries sustained from bike accidents are head injuries.
Frontal lobe injuries are most likely to cause neurological damage, such as short-term memory problems, behavioral, and developmental problems. Helmets can protect the head from such injuries in most cases when worn properly.
I grew up riding my bike without a helmet, and I never sustained an injury. However, I have kids now, and wouldn't dare take the risk. It only takes one incident to change your life. Why risk it? There are some pretty cool helmets out there, and kids can add stikers, decals, and artwork to personalize them.
Please wear a helmet and encourage others to do so.
Have a safe and good day!

Kids should wear helmets because they can fall directly on their heads and not be able to stop like an adult can.
When a child is just starting to ride a bike anything can happen but at least their head is covered.

Nobody wore helmets when I was a kid forty years ago. I never knew anyone that was seriously injured or died after falling off a bike. But that didn't mean it didn't happen. There are a lot more kids on bikes and a lot more cars on the road than there was forty years ago. A helmet is like car insurance, fire insurance, life insurance. You wish you didn't have to have it, but you're damned glad you did when you needed it.

ANYONE should wear a helmet. Why ? Common sense. I went down some years ago, and the only part of me that did'nt hurt was my head. I don't ride without a helmet. And 99% of serious riders in this area also wear one. They're required in most pro races for a reason.

In case they fall so that they don't get head injuries that can turn fatal. Every bike rider should wear a helmet regardless of age.

Wearing helmets is a great precaution for kids because if an accident should occur, their heads will be better protected to avoid serious injury.

About 800 people died in bicycle crashes in 2005 in the US. 67 000 head injuries occured. Many head injuries cause brain damage so that even if the person doesnt die, they are useless and a huge cost to society to care for them as vegetables who cannot speak or move so they would be better off dead. A helmet helps but does not always protect.

Adults and children should wear helmets because head injuries can kill or maim the person for life. Uncomfortable maybe, but laying in a bed as a vegetable isn't much fun either.

Why are you limiting your question to kids?
A head injury is just as bad for kids as adults, and the habits you teach your kids are the ones they will take with them to adulthood. Just remember that a helmet is NOT a bonnet, and needs to fit snugly right above the eyebrows, not on the back of the head!
Guess how kids fall? That's right- face first.
