If you are on orders and/or on a military flight (Space A) you may be required to fly in your uniform. However, if you are flying commercial for personal travel, it is best to fly in civies. One, it is far more comfortable...flying to Japan can last over 15 hours (depending on where you leave from). Also, you wouldn't want to spill or stain them. If you really want to surprise them, bring your uniform in a garment bag as a carry on and then change before you see them. There are always rest rooms before you clear customs and enter the gate areas.

as perviously stated there is no rule against it but you do have to look good AND act appropriatly (IE not bring shame to the military or marines in your case) While in uniform your actions are constantly under scrutiny. Best idea would be to travel in civys and at a bathroom somewhere close to where your destination is to then change in your dress uniform.

when you are overseas (even if your stationed there) they warn you about wearing anything that marks you as military (or even american for that matter) off base. if you go near a base you will see people off base in uniform (especially if they are eating lunch). when we were in Japan my husband had to drive to tokyo on duty sometimes and he was told to wear civilian clothes to work that day. as for taking a MAC flight and it being required.....they are now called Space A and uniforms of any type are not required. (ive flown space A with my husband quite a few times....and ive taken him to the terminal to fly out himself alot too and hes never worn one). traveling in uniform is also a big nono on civilian flights.........makes you a target.

Yes you can, but it is inadvisable because of the situation in the world today. You may change into them after you have landed but don't fly with them on. You become a large target to possible terrorist and you may actually put innocent people around you in danger. Especially since you are traveling over seas,

i was in the navy, so yes, you can wear your uniform for just about anything. there is no rule about no wearing it for casual use. as long as it looks good and you are wearing every little article that goes with it correctly (hat, ribbons, etc) so that by the off chance some officer sees you, he'd have nothing negative to say.
just please don't wear it at the airport or on the plane or you'll be the target of some ahole. once you get to wear your buds are, you can change and go party.

yes you can, you may need permission from you CO, but don't forget you represent your unit, i see others are saying change in the washroom.......... NO WAY, wear your uniform with pride, no reason to sneak into a blinking washroom to change, you are part of the armed forces, and as such you should have pride in your self and your unit and your uniform, i was in Vietnam, from 1969, i did two tours there, i wore my uniform with pride even though many people of my age group were against that war.

If you catch a MAC flight, minimum Class B uniform is mandatory. So, they are probably fine with dress blues.
If you are travelling on a civilian flight, it is fine, but I would not necessarily recommend it. It draws unwanted attention.
