This works not only for Word, but for any Windows program that uses the keyboard:
1. Make sure your keyboard is in NumLock mode.
2. Press and hold the ALT key while entering, on the NUMERIC keypad, 248 (°).
Hope that helps.

Hold the alt key, and type the sequence 0176 on the number pad (not the number bar at the top of the keyboard, the 9 digit pad on the right). Alternatively you can type a lower case o and then highlight it and make the font superscript (ctrl, shift, and + key at the same time.)

Would like to add to "Seaavee"
Example: 32 degrees
32+small o space
use Shift-left arrow to select the o only
click Format
cl Font
cl Superscript
Be careful, as soon as you resume typing, note if it is looking correct. You may have to go back to reset font to normal - which would be:
Format
Font
then indicate the font name and size you want

Insert menu>symbol
The font should be set to symbol, and the degree symbol is on the sixth line, 5th character in.
Select the symbol, then hit the insert button.

L type a lowercase o. Highlight it, go to font and choose superscript. Now that I have Office 2007 there might be a easier way.
