When did your Newfie start to drool?

A owner came into our office with a Newfoundland puppy (8 weeks) today and I overheard her telling other owners how he is dry mouthed? When do they start to drool? At what age?

Just curious! Thanks!

I just love when people try to sell their Newfie and Saint pups by advertising them as "dry mouthed". No such thing! Well, unless they are bred so poorly their head is misshapen and then they tend to drool less (yes, they still drool).

I would say when my Newfs were puppies they really only "drooled" after sticking their entire nose into the water dishes or while smelling something yummy. I would not call it drooling, it was more of a wet mouth.

However, once they hit around 9 months it was a different story! Gradually, I would notice more and more drool. Now, my female is 17 months and she is a walking hose :) The bib sure comes in handy!

Hey, the more drool the merrier!

Oh, for boys, about 8-15 months the water works start. Depending on head size and such.
The owner was probably spouting the "scam" that crappy breeders spout to sell people these dogs when they are AFRAID of the drool!!!! All puppies are dry mouthed, except for after dringing water that they had submerged their heads into!!!!
It is SAD, but common. I hope that one day when this guy does drool, they do not dump him!!!!!
My boy is ESPECIALLY drooly. Has been since he was 8 months. He has a very blocky head and a short muzzle with BIG flews. I have never had a Newf that drooled that much, but ALL of mine that I have and have had drool.

Wonder what other CRAP the breeder fed them!!!!!

Swims With Newfs in currently in GUAM...yes GUAM. His two are with me right now and they are champion droolers too!!!!!!!!!!!
Although, I really think Landseers drool less. They tend to have tighter flews, so I guess the drool would be less. I am sure that is not a rule, but with his and mine, they produce less drool than all of them.

no longer a Black Saint Bernard lined maximum of what i might say... i'm going to in basic terms upload: Spend time with the canines, discuss with different breeders suitable to the line of canines. some Newfs have "sharper" temperaments than others. i understand there are some Newfs who i do no longer prefer to be set up close to at a dogshow... and this is not any longer actual of the breed customarily.
