I have a 4-year-old cat who is usually active, i.e. jumping on the fridge and table, running towards to the screen door to get a "taste"of the outdoors. However, for the past week-and-a-half, he's been acting much lazier than usual. He has resorted to sleeping or laying down for most of the day. He does not meow as much either. This has never happened before.

What could be bothering him? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am wondering if you may have moved or have a new pet or friend who is getting more of your attention. Have you changed his diet??? Could he have possibly eaten anything he should not have, and if he is a free-roaming animal could he/she have eaten a mouse that had already eaten some poison? I do not wish to scare you in any way but I have owned over 70 cats and these things I have listed are the most common things that will change a cats behavior. If he/she continues this behavior I would take him to a vet for a blood work up. Best of luck and aloha...alohawitch signing off at Fernandos casa.

Absolutely any drastic change in a cat's behavior should be taken seriously. He should go to the vet!
Also, be thinking about things like:
Is he cleaning himself less frequently... eating less? Drinking more or less?
Think about these types of things. It can help the vet narrow down anything that may be going on with your baby.

you should at very least consult a vet. lethargic behavior usually comes with dehydration. cats are really good at hiding being sick so if they are showing signs they really need our help. is he using the box regular? is he eating and drinking? does he seem limp or wobbly? does he seem to hide in dark spaces? if any of these are true urgent care now. if not it could be psychological. maybe something has traumatized him.
