I'm a brail reader but still wonder why don't we just use raised print so all could read. people have to have someone read letters from blind people because they don't always use the computer to print it in both. I've just wondered.

One reason that raised letters aren't used is that this would significantly slow down the reading process. To 'read' raised letters multiple movements of the fingers are needed to 'read' the whole letter. The six-dot cells of Braille allow a person to 'read' the letter in one go.

I can't read brail myself, but as I understand it, it would be nearly impossible to tell some letters apart by feel if they were simply raised in their current form, which is why brail was invented.

In braille you have to double space to allow for typing on the reverce side. in raised letters you would have to do the same. This would be very ineffective and costly. You would have to use a standard font size. and this would greatly waiste material.
