Hints for broiling steak?

I have 2 porterhouse steaks (T-bone) that I'm going to broil tonight for my lova and I want to impress him (he probably thinks I'll burn them!) They are about an inch thick and I do have a broiler pan.

I'm looking for cook times for medium well, and what degree should I set the oven at? Should I only flip the steaks once?

I do have time to run to the store to grab some things, but I was just intending on seasoning them with ground pepper and garlic seasoning. What do you think about that?

Please don't tell me to just grill them because that is out of the question! Thanks for your time;)

Seasoning with pepper, garlic, salt and a few pats of butter is perfect. Lay them on a broiler pan, put about a cup or so of water in the bottom of the broiler pan. Put your pan around 4 inches from broiler in oven for two minutes on each side to sear the steaks. Move down to next rack and cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes for medium well steaks. The water in the bottom of the broiler pan will help keep the meat from drying out.

Sprinkle both steaks generously with a mixture of kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, and beau monde or bon appetit seasoning. Massage into the meat and let sit for about an hour or so at room temperature. Make sure your broiler pan is well oiled and hot when you put steaks on it. If your oven has a hi or lo broiler temp, then opt for high and make sure that the pan is about 4 - 6 inches from the direct heat. When pan is hot, place steaks on top and sear. Try not to pierce the meat at any time, but sear on both sides. For medium rare, it should take you approximately 7 minutes on each side, give or take a couple. Watch the meat closely so that it doesn't catch fire or burn. Let cooked steaks sit for a few minutes before serving so that the juices will remain in the meat. Enjoy!

I usually season mine with black pepper, a little garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper, parsley, paprika and splash a little worcestershire sauce on the steaks before I toss them in the broiler.

My broiler only has lo and high settings, so I'm not sure what degree to set them at. Most broilers I've seen have only one or two settings.
Only flip the steaks once, the more you flip the tougher food gets!

If your honey loves mushrooms, i'd saute some to top his steak off with! That's a big hit for my hubby, and it's a quick and easy meal when I don't feel like cooking too much!
