Unfortunately, that's one of those axioms that doesn't apply universally. It depends on the quality of the relationship in question. If it's one where the two lovers just pine for each other, yes, the heart grows fonder. If it's a relationship in which one has a wandering eye and a tendency to look for opportunity to stray, absence makes the libido grow stronger. That doesn't have quite the easy lilt on the tongue of the original saying, but it's painfully true. Good luck, sweetie, sounds like you have a serious question to face in your near future.

To a point, absence may make the heart grow fonder, but I have found that too much absence may make the heart wander. One must always let the other know that they're missed and that they care about them. Never take the other one for granted.

yes and no. It can at first but after awhile, it can put a strain on the heart. I was in a long distance relationship and I found I would pick fights for attention because i was stressed by our time apart. Also your heart may be fonder but your mind will over think everything.

Yes it does. My high school sweet heart, now my husband, moved about an hour and a half away after we graduated. We would only get see each other on the weekends; it was hard. If you want a relationship to last, you have to work hard at it. We have been together for almost 10 years and he still gives me the butterflies; when I am not yelling at him for forgeting to do something!!

It goes both ways for me. I mean, if your absence for such a long amount of time, the other person may start to lose feelings and move on, but if its for a week and u realli haven't talked or seen the other person much.. it makes the whole next seein' eachother thing.. somewhat..special in a way..

Not for me.
Ugh.
It's been 5 months. My heart isn't a BIT fonder.

Absense makes me hurt like hell. There's a great short poem on the subject by W.S. Merwin:

Your absense has gone through me
Like thread through a needle.
Everything I do is stitched with its color.

When people die, though, you do get more fond of them. You remember everything about them that was good, and that you'll miss, but you forget the bad stuff.

Yes. But you can take a shot for the "fonder growth"
as well as the fungus under your toenails.

:-))

It's like a bell curve. For awhile the fondness grows stronger until it peaks and then it slowly dissipates from my mind.
