Ive suffered from depression earlier this year due to many different things including leaving home and having two 19 yr old friends die. It is coming up to the anniversary of the first one. This has been playing on my mind for some time but for the most part ive been doing ok.
A couple of weeks ago this guy told me he liked me and promised he wouldnt hurt me etc. But lately hes been acting a bit off and Im trying to figure out if hes trying to show me hes not interested, Id rather he just said it straight out. Stupid I know, but it broke me, and now everything thats happened this year is coming back and haunting me.
I cant stop crying and I need to sleep, I have class in the morning (its 2 am here). I cant sleep with all this in my head and the thought that I have a big presentation due on wednesday that I havnt started so I cant spend tomorrow feeling sorry for myself.
What can I do to calm myself down and get some rest?
Thank you

For the immediate problem, I would say go to walmart and buy a $2 bottle of sleeping pills. Do not take more than 1 pill. The cheaper ones are pretty strong and I can only take one pill if I want to get up on time for work the next day.

Next: Do not call the guy or try to see him. If he should call you, turn him down. You should not be trying to date in your current emotional state. Tell him you just want to be friends for now.

For the long term, I would find a local senior citizen home and volunteer at least one day a week to go and sit with elderly people, talk with them, play cards, etc. Or find a local hospital and sign up to be a volunteer. It is rewarding and will help build your self esteen. Also, it will keep you busy so that you don't have too much time to dwell on your sorrows.

If you continue need sleeping pills for more than a couple weeks, see a doctor about depression counseling.

Okay, you can always start from square one by focusing on the breath. The body is a mandala. Breath slowly in and out, counting the breath on the outbreath. Count to ten and then start over. Think only about the breathing.
Progressively relax the body first, starting at the toes. Feel all the tension go out of the toes. Then the middle of the foot, then the heels and ankles, then move slowly up the legs etc, progressively relaxing.
Now that you're nice and relaxed, how about a good God-centered mantra to put your mind in a good place and get you some divine help. The Hare Krishna mantra is good; it's just repetitions of some names of God: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare.
Hope this helps! Your friends are rootin' for ya!

Take a pen and a piece of paper and answer these two questions:
1- what is the worst thing that could happen ?
2- If the worst thing still happenes, will I be able to handle it, and how?

Then go to bed and take a good nap. Afterall, tomorrow is another day:) and you have probably worried for nothing as it usually happens.

im alittle against treating depression with medication, but n e ways the thing is that you do need to ask for help some were, ive lived with a family member with depression and i know how unpleasant it is. you shouldnt care about n e one Else but you right now. think of yourself and dont let n e boy control your feelings... if your sad, feel sad... but not because of a guy. losing close friends must be hard... and mostly if they were that young... but all i can tell you is seek help, talk to ppl and have a moment to think about you and how important YOU are. :) hope everything turns out alright.
take care

Try taking a hot bath and doing deep breathing exercises-in through your nose, out through your mouth. Try to imagine you are blowing out candles on a cake when blowing out so that you do it slowly.

I also think going to you campus counseling center might be a good idea. It is hard to deal with depression on your own and if you aren't sleeping, you may need medication, too. Good luck.

i went through depression last year too. i took a couple days of school of, because at that point i didnt really cared for my grades. i think i took like 3 or 4 days off. i talked to my dad, i was sheading tears ( im a tomboy i dont do that usally ) he kind of made me release everything out. i talked to my close friend too she gave me advice: she told me that theres always people there for you, and people that love me. and how im not the only one. that kind of help me. i give you all my wishes to feel better. i know how u feel, kinda like crap and worthless.

Close your eyes for 2 minutes, and take deep breathes, clear your mind, and just relax.
