It may have been Only the Living can serve thee. In the scripture I am looking for the King is near death and his family and assciates are preparing for his death. But the King Mariculously survives. And when he as regained his strength He praises God and says something to the effect. The Living. Only the living can serve thee'

I'm certain that the others who have answered are correct. That the event that you're looking for is King Hezekiah.

I just wanted to add that I goggled "the living can praise thee" and I found it, not in the Bible, but in a translation of one of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Isaiah 38:18-19 - A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:
" For the grave cannot praise you,
death cannot sing your praise;
those who go down to the pit
cannot hope for your faithfulness.

The living, the living—they praise you,
as I am doing today;
fathers tell their children
about your faithfulness."

Jesus tells us in Mark12:26-27 that God as the God of Abrahm,Isaac and Jacob is the God of the Living which can only mean that Abe,etc are living in God
