... if the kitten is old enough.. get the kitty spayed/neutered... if you have other cat at home, make sure the kitty is checked out fully by the vet... If the kitty has FIV, you don't want that to spare to your other cat at home...

Once your new kitty get a clean bill of health, I would suggest to put your new kitty in a quiet and isolated room... with the litter box/food/water... this way your kitty can calm its nerves and get used the smell/sound of your home... This will also prevent the cat form urine marking or being too stressed out.. the room doesn't have to be too big. If you live in a one bedroom apartment, the bathroom will be fine....

Go into the room and spend some time with the cat the 1st couple of days... bring a book/magazine to read... don't force to play with the cat... let it come to you... pet and talk to him softly...

Once you feel your cat is ready, let the door open and let him get outside at his own time... Don't ever force your cat to do something he doesn't want to do... this will only frighten him more... Some cats take longer than the other, but they usually get over it about a week or so....

Good luck to your new addition.. :)

Sure!! I will be glad to give you some tips and advise! First you have to get your house ready for the kitten like make sure you don't have any lose wires around the house cuz the kitten will think it is a toy and WILL chew!! If you have long curtains BEWARE the kitten will climb and swing on them. Make sure you have an own bed for your kitten, A litter box and some toys. If you have any other animals like a cat or a dog let the kitten know you and let it get comfortable with the house before they meet. If you need more advise feel free to email me anytime!!:}

Take it to the vet within TWO days of getting it! Take a fecal sample with you. This is the BEST way to get it off to a great start and be sure it is vaccinated and free from parasites!!

Doesn't matter if it comes from a shelter, free ad, or a breeder....ALWAYS take a new pet to YOUR vet ASAP!!!
