I know God is real because he is in everything I see, hear, smell, and taste. No man could have done that. Also, if there is no Heaven or Hell, what would be the point of life? Just to die then rot in the ground. NOT! Remember the definition of faith when in doubt-It's the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The Bible has too many things in the past and present that have or are happening to be fake. The people, like Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate, to name a few. Are a real part of world history. No one is making that up! People don't want others to believe it. Also, there are just to many pieces of the puzzle that"fit" for me. I am just a bonifide believer. I will pray that you find your way back to God. Please read and pray over Acts 2:38. It is the plan of salvation. As long as you are still thinking about God in the slightest. It is not too late. God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a tremendously great question I wish more theists would ask themselves (I finally got around to it when I was younger than when I actually did).

You will hear two answers, and I challenge you to honestly approach both of them:

1. "You either believe or your don't. Evidence doesn't matter"

Should this be true, you would be on equally sound footing if you believed in magical unicorns as you would in Jesus. There have to be reasons to hold a belief, and those reasons have to stand up to some criteria. If "belief" is all that matters, than any belief is equally good....which certainly can't be true since there are an infinite number of things/gods to believe in.

I hate the term "a person of faith", since all that implies is that they don't have good reasons for what they believe, they simply WANT it to be true.

#2. "The bible proves itself to be true"

This is really what Christians usually mean. They don't really have faith, they believe that bible is evidence of their god. This is a trip worth taking. Read the bible, understand who wrote it and when. Who were they writing to and about? Was the text changed? Altered? Added to? Who were the early Church fathers and did their religion evolve? It is terribly interesting stuff to learn.

I suggest starting here, www.earlychristianwritings.com. It has a ton of background on each book of the bible, by secularists, fundamentalists, catholics, ect. Read all there is to read and make up your own mind. If the bible can't stand up to that, it shouldn't deserve to be taken as more than an interesting story.

Best 'o luck to you.

You are not lost. Look down, you are on the path.
This is the part on your path where you stop, look back to see where you came from, making good note of it, what it was like and did it serve you best interests. And then. do a180 degree turn and look ahead on your path, you should see a crossroads with no signs ( darn ). All you have to go by is the inner knowing of which way to go ( your hunch ).
If you do not think you are blessed, think again. No matter which way you choose, you will always be blessed.
But then again, what do I know.

We know God exists because it says so in the bible. How do we know the bible is the truth? Because it was written (or at least dictated) by God. This is the best example of circular reasoning there is.

We know God is real because we have creation, and a creation implies a creator. If you look at the carvings of the presidents on Mount Rushmore, could you believe that it happened by random chance? The universe is far to complex for it to have been created by random chance. Think about the idea of the "Big Bang" that all of the stars, planets, time, and creation came from something exploding. That is ridiculous theory, and the fact that people believe we all evolved from one single cell is absurd. If a frog turns into a handsome prince quickly we all know it’s a fairy tale, but if a frog turns into a prince slowly it is modern science.

What makes more logical sense
God created the heavens and the earth
or dust created the heavens and the earth
You decide

I can give you so much more proof, like biblical prophecy, and scientific evidence for a creator but It shouldn't be necessary.

I've gone through my doubts, too. One of the most powerful testimonies that the Bible isn't just a book of "stories to entertain" is in the deaths of the apostles themselves. For one, something convinced this ordinary bunch of fishermen and tax collectors that Jesus was alive. In fact, they were so convinced that He had risen from the dead and was truly God that they were willing to face the most hideous forms of torture and persecution for their claims. People don't die for a lie. The apostles, of all people, should have been the ones to know the truth of Jesus' resurrection. If they knew He had died and was still somewhere rotting, they would never have even given thought to spreading the message that He was alive. But they must have known something more, something that gave them the courage to stand up for their faith, even in the face of pain and death. What else could it have been but the Truth?
A website that really helped me out with my doubts on God's existence is here: http://www.everystudent.com/journeys/nothing.html

Knowing God isn't about blind faith. It's just the opposite--the Bible itself encourages us to seek for ourselves when we doubt, and even to test it. Test the Bible, do some research, look into the prophecies of the Old Testament that have come true, search with an open heart. I'll be praying for you.
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." --Jeremiah 29:13

It says in the Bible that the Bible is the word of God and since it's the word of God and it says so in the Bible the Bible must be true because it's the word of God, as it says in the Bible.

The historical and geological evidence for the Bible is staggering.

Let me suggest you read a book or two by Lee Strobel, called "The Case for Christ" and "The Case for Faith".

Lee was an atheist and the Legal Editor for the Chicago Tribune when he started doing the research to prove the Bible wrong.

As an honest atheist and journalist, who was law school trained, (Lee is also a gradute of Yale Law School), he soon found the evidence was signficant.

Which reminds me of another book written by a guy who wanted to disprove the Bible and wrote "Evidence which demands a verdict". Josh McDowell wrote that book.

The complexity of life screams that there is a creator / designer somewhere. For instance, it took us years on the most complex and sophisticated computer systems to map the human genome, which is basically Human DNA. It is an intricate and amazingly complex code that is completely impossible to have come from random chance. Something must have designed DNA, because otherwise it would not exist. Simple observation can tell you that over time things break down into less complex materials.

This is just one small example. Other reasons that we know there is a God is because of our conscience that demands justice when we're wronged. Also who made the laws of physics? Somehow gravity works every single time. Why? Science can discover the laws that already exist, but how did the laws come about?

There is a God, something bigger than us. The next step is to answer the question... Who is this God? How can we know about Him?

When you explore the religions, they all come from some parts of history. Islam came from the middle east with mohammed who basically put his religion together from the Jewish and Christian religions, but changed things around.

What convinced me was the fact that the Jews were still around even today, which adds credibility to the old testament. Another interesting thing is that I was speaking to an Islamic lady about her faith and she kept bringing up Jesus and saying that Jesus is going to deny everyone who believes in him. That made me curious to know who this Jesus really was, so I started researching Christianity.

I immediately found all kinds of hate sites online in regards to Jesus. At first, every site I found was something against Jesus, and I didn't understand what the big deal was...

Then I examined the claims of the bible. I found that it is the most accurate book of antiquity and that you could go to museums across the world to actually see many historical manuscripts, which proves that it has been unchanged for thousands of years.

Then I examined some prophecies about Jesus. It turned out that there were over 300 specific prophecies in the old testament that all happened to coincide with Jesus' life.

For instance, the messiah was to be born in Bethlehem, come out of Egypt, and would be called a Galilean. Well it turned out Jesus was born in Bethlehem, he and his parents fled to Egypt, and came back to live in Galilee.

The more I dug, the more I became convinced that Jesus was something more than a mere man. This was from years of research and trying to understand.

The thing about Christianity is that I would always hear preachers say that I had to surrender to Christ, and in doing that He would forgive me of all my sins and the other part was they mentioned hell, and I didn't want to go there.

One day alone in my truck in 2001, I simply prayed to Jesus and said that I committed the rest of my life to Him. I didn't have all of the answers at the time, but after a few weeks, I stopped a number of sins that I had been into, and a month after that I found myself going to church for the first time in literally 12 years, which was scary, but I knew I needed to do it.

One thing also that I discovered that continued to help me in my faith was the fact that there were so many people literally being killed and martyred for their faith in Christ. They would endure the worst suffering imaginable and never complain or renounce their faith. That amazed me more than anything. How could someone love the people who were torturing him?

May I suggest a few resources...

There is no proof of the existence of god. I too was a believer but after hearing all the cop-out answers as to gods actions or lack of actions I started to realize that there is no god and that the concept of god is flawed.
