Yup.
Some days I swear my Golden would crawl right inside my skin if I let her. She is always nudging my arm to pat her, and she would take CONSTANT attention, if I could give it.
Goldens are also extremely orally fixated. They are retrievers, and how do they do that? with their mouths of course!.
Also, the fact that the dog is young has something to do with it, as his energy level is probably throught the roof.

P.S.
The "gay guys" comment was obviouly a little offensive to some, and completely irrelevant to the question-trust me, the dog doesn't care either.

I have a golden retriever and she really loves people. But things like jumping on people to show her affection we trained her not to do. If the golden retriever your babysitting is still a puppy, then he's just doing what puppies do.

I also volunteer at an animal shelter, where some of the dogs are puppies, untrained or unsocialized. If a dog is really affectionate and jumps or licks or tries to get in your lap, we just turn our backs to the dog and ignore it until it has all feet on the floor and is willing to calm down a bit before we pet it. I don't know how long you're going to be babysitting the dog, so I don't know if this technique will really work for you in the short term. My golden sometimes thinks she's a lap dog too, but with big dogs like goldens you can use a little force to tell him to stop doing something.

Try to ignore bad behavior, praise good behavior.

Among some of the most affectionate dogs are labs and retrievers. He is probably looking to replace some of the love that his daddies give him when they are around. Just keep loving him as much as you can. The owners have obviously done a good job

Goldens are the most loving dogs and they do crave a lot of attention. If the golden is overstepping his boundaries with you just give him a stern "no" and stop giving him attention. He'll eventually figure out that if he wants your attention, he needs to "mind his manners" with you. Goldens are very smart. Good Luck :)

This dog having owners that are gay really has nothing to do with anything.Get up off of the floor and the dog can not lay on you like this. My friends little dog licks her like this. Though I personally think it is gross, she says the dog is only taking care of her like she was it's baby. They do this with their young. This is how well they clean them. Stay off the floor and keep your mouth shut. This way he can't stick his nose in your mouth.

Yeah, they are sweet dogs.. I am curious as to why it's important to mention that you are babysitting for gay guys? Are you suggesting that's the reason the dog is kissing you? Dogs kiss and lick.. Not a big deal.

He sounds like he is testing you.You need him to listen to you first. You can get treats and say"sit",and when he listens give him a tiny bit,THEN pet him and tell him,Good Boy!.He may be insecure about his owners being gone, but he needs to get your attention on *your terms*.Yes,Goldens are known for being attention hounds, but you still have to teach him nicely that you are the boss(.You can reward him by playing ball with him, etc, too.)

He's being dominant. Don't let him. He's taking advantage of you and showing you who is boss (in a very Golden Lab way). Put his leash on him and don't let him do that.
