Albert Pike wrote the "Morals and Dogma" of the Ancient and Accepted Rite of Freemasonry. Some of the words of this greatest sage of Freemasonry should put Freemasonry in perspective.

On page 819 you will find just one example of why there are many people in Freemasonry who believe that it is natural to be a Christian and a Mason. "The Blue Degrees are but the outer court or portico of the Temple. Part of the symbols are displayed there to the Initiate, but he is intentionally misled by false interpretations. It is not intended that he shall understand them; but it is intended that he shall imagine he understands them." Freemasonry intentionally misleads the low degree initiates and hides the truth that the god of Freemasonry is Lucifer, except to those in the 30th and higher degrees.

In the upper levels of freemasonry which the lower levels are ignorant of, they realize that lucifier is the God of freemasonry and that he is the one that illuminates them.

Wow let me guess-- you believe that anyone who is not devout Christian like you must be evil and immoral, and you think that anyone worshipping anything besides God is worshipping the devil?

You don't deserve an answer if you can't even study Freemasonry with an open mind. Freemasonry was founded by Christians, and now anyone of any religion can join as long as they are seen as moral and good people.

you could not possibly be more wrong on this subject...

* Pike is hardly known in freemasonry outside the southern jurisdiction of the USA; hardly the "greatest sage" as you claim
* the site you reference is full of lies by anti-masons
* adonay is only used in the Taxil haox, from which ALL satanic/luciferian claims against masonry stem; notice it is the Taxil Hoax as in the guy who started it admitted he was lying
* lucifer is "bringer of light" and Pike says "lucifer, bringer of light, if you are not God who is" which is calling God the bringer of light (lucifer, the literal translation and linguisitic usage of this latin word is "bringer of light") and not satan...
* the bit about "false interpretation" is also inaccurate, everything in masonry is symbolic and has many layers of meaning (NONE of them satanic) and the false interpretation he speaks of is that an EA is told one interpretation of a symbol...this is because masonry is a learning fraternity - just as you study elementary math before moving to algebra and calculus, so too you start with one interpretation of a symbol and then learn deeper meanings, like peeling the layers of an onion.

to other responses:
* there are no upper levels, the 3rd is the highest, more uneducated anti-mason spew here... see the bit about the word lucifer... for thousands of years this had nothing to do with satan (and this was the case at the time Pike wrote)... but now all anti-masons "know" better... what a joke
* freemasonry is not a cult, and it is not a religion
* most freemasons i know are christian but there are jewish, muslim, buddhist, etc... freemasons, again it is NOT a religious institution nor a religion itself... you can join the Eastern Star which is a female co-masonic body in the USA
* good point Nadine....!!!
* everything IS available online - search for Duncan's Ritual Monitor and you'll find it at phoenixmasonry.org --- it is pretty much what most Lodges use...
* the tie between the end of the Templars and the origins of freemasonry is speculative at best, operative masons (in existence long before the Templars) practiced speculative masonry (what is now freemasonry) on the 7th day, it is just as likely it grew out of that as the need for operative masons dwindled over the centuries; the Templars were a Catholic organization at first (Freemasonry was never a religious institution)
* No, the Bible says nothing of Freemasonry, and the Vatican/Catholic/Pope edict against it was due to two false beliefs (one that freemasonry was a secret society (like other socieites in Italy that were secret) and plotting against it for control and second that it grew out of the Templars who were thought to have been labeled heretics by Pope Clement - but as we now know Clement absolved the Templars (read the Chinon Parchment)... 700 years of lies, hatred and paranoia for nothing; will that pattern ever end?

My grandfather.

To Jimmy Pop, Freemasonry arose from the ashes of the Knights Templars after they fled to Scotland. They were a Catholic organization at first, which is why the Vatican countered with the similar Knights of Columbus.

Freemasonry is not related to the devil.

Christian clergy from respected mainline churches (Presbyterians, Methodists) etc. are masons. I know that for a fact because when I was a kid we went to the United Church of Canada (Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregationist), and our preacher was a mason.

The Freemasons are a fraternal organization. That's it. There is nothing evil or satanic about them.

The Elks, however, are a different matter. They are a swingers', orgy outfit. Look at their symbol--they're trying to say that they're horny all time.

The Lions are satanic as well. Away back in history, Lions used to eat Christians.

Mind you, the Eagles are OK. They prey a lot.

What? I was under the impression that Freemasons were Christian, no? Well, there is a Masonic Temple in my town. Guess I'll have to go in and check it out. Oh darn, their site says you have to be a male to join. **** them then... lol.

I think Freemasonry is older then christianity, so....
It couldnt possibly be about the fictionable nemesis of some hokey religion.

The devil is a nice little fiction that people made up to excuse their less socially acceptable impulses.

How is an apple NOT related to a peach? You've already made up your mind about this; you act as though someone is arguing with you even before you begin.

It isn't related to any devil.

It's foundations are christian.

You need to check your resources. If they are verbal then stay away from the source - it knows nothing - if anything.

Freemasonry is purely a fraternal cult. They allow any and all religions and sponsor no one of them. One could say that they are polytheistic.
