Hi, I am 26 yr old female. I am 5 ft 4 in weighing 103 lb currently. My problem is that, inspite of being so skinny I have abdominal fat (those handles on the sides of my waist) and lil bit of fat here and there in my body. My aim is to reduce this body fat without building too much of muscles. Being a female i dont want to look like a weighlifter/athletic. I heard that elliptical trainer is good for burning fat with low impact. Would someone please tell me if the above equipment would make me build muscles too or provide any other valuable suggestions?

women don't produce enough testosterone to build big muscles. from the sounds of your description you could use some lean body mass. if you are skinny with not much muscle now at 26 when you are 40 you will have a lot less muscle and a lot more body fat.

Its pretty hard for a female (especially a petite one like you) to start looking like a body builder just by dieting. Those body building women have a specific diet where they gain weight to gain muscle. They have a very specific diet and exercise plan. Just do your regular sit ups or burn calories gained and you will lose the excess fat. Males bulk up bacause of testosterone which, being a female, you don't have a lot of.

To burn fat you need to 1) Drink lots of water, 2) Do lots of cardio, 3) Lower your stress level 4) Build up your muscles to speed up your metabolism 5) Eat the right foods.

hrm well thats impossible.. you have to build SOME muscle...but i would focus on the muscle on your legs...10 lbs of muscle there would barely be noticeable AND it raises your overall metabolism. The love handles is a tricky place to burn...and since spot treatment exercises dont really work, your best bet is to get a even lower body fat percentage or lipo if its really that bad for you.

You can only loose weight uniformly through out your body. Walking and doing housework is the best exercise for losing fat and ensure that your diet does not include any high calorie foods. Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. From http://myweight.info

It is very hard to build muscles -- you have to do focused resistance training and eat a special diet. Thus, you can safely do any aerobic exercise (walking, running, elliptical, bicycling, etc.) and not worry about becoming muscular.

Less strenuous workouts should do the trick, just take it easy and do a slow jog for an hour daily or every other day.
