I ask because Europe is in the "post-Christian" era right now. And please, don't take my word for it, look it up.
1. Sweden - 85% atheist/agnostic
2. France - 54% athesist/agnostic

... to name only two.

Yes, atheism is the stage that will follow monotheism. Right now, the world is only 2.4% atheistic and 12% agnostic. Long way to go, but we've already come a long way toward enlightenment. Mankind started with pantheism, then moved to polytheism, then to monotheism. After atheism comes nihilism and finally "happy nihilism." When we get to happy nihilism we will finally believe in no gods, no substances, no ultimate realities, no "principles" other than a zero sum universe, but we will be much happier than we are now, as the fictional blissful "zetosophers" and "namians" illustrate.

till now you start up this, do you already know that greater human beings have died for the call of God than for the different reason on earth blended? in case you do not have faith me, look at Northern eire, The Crusades, 9/11, the middle East, the Spanish Inquisition, The Salem Witch Trials, and so on. If human beings particularly believed that God grew to become into love, why are human beings constantly loss of life and killing for him? to no longer point out each and all the hatred it somewhat is spewed from some Christan approximately homosexuality and a woman's magnificent to decide on. So in case you particularly need to start a combat approximately vile bigotry, perhaps you need to look back in historic previous and do some homework. no one has ever died for agnosticism or atheism.

We are probably headed toward atheism, however, it will be along time before we catch up to Europe. There are too many fundamentalist in this country for us to change very quickly. Especially in the South were I live. With all the Christian TV networks brainwashing people on a daily bases and putting fear in their minds for there own profit, Americans will be along time waking up.

Yes. There are more and more people who are opening their eyes and seeing the truth! As science gets better people are finding out things. As time goes on more and more people will come to the same conclusion! Atheism is on the rise in many countries.

*Edit*
It is on the rise here in Australia. Our last census (not sure on numbers) showed that there was a large increase, something like 25% since the last census 5 years previous.

People have stopped believing in witches and wizards. It seems logical to assume that gods will be next (though it might take some time).

I think that people are starting to realize that religion isn't the answer... We are starting to realize that we have no idea what really happened at the beginning...

Atheism and secularity are both on the rise in most developed countries, even the US.

Oh man...I hope so. But I think the US will resist logic and reason the same way it refused to adopt the metric system.

And in France we don't allow company to sell guns to kids for more money, and the death penalty was abolished since a while back.
