According to Christians, we are god's children, and he is our father. He loves us, & wants the best for us, so he created rules for us to follow. He gave us freedom to obey or disobey these rules, knowing that each of us will disobey sometimes because we are not perfect. He also gave us a means of redeeming ourselves, no matter how bad we are. There is never an "ultimate consequence", so long as you are willing to ask god to forgive you.
In a sense, instead of learning right from wrong, people simply learn how to say, "I'm sorry."
God once spoke directly to people. He no longer does this. Nor does he send prophets to speak for him. He just left us with a book, and told us that we have to teach each other, and we must interpret his "rewards and punishments" each in our own way.
Would you teach your children this way? Wouldn't you expect them to grow up confused & wildly irresponsible, knowing they could always get away with anything as long as they said, "I'm sorry."?
I wouldn't.

No God would give a human the capacity to think critically and then not show evidence of his existence.

No matter how many times your child messy up you are going to forgive them and you will still love them just because they are your child. Just because your child makes a mistake doesn't make you a bad parent. Even children have their own free will. Of course all actions weather go or bad come with consequences.
God still speaks to His children. There are prophets walking the Earth today, it is only that some people do not recognize them as prophets.
There is an "ultimate consequence" , either you walk with God and spend eternity in Heaven as a reward or you walk without Him and spend eternity in Hell as a punishment.
Yes, God will punish those that do not believe. He is a caring loving God but you had your chance and chose not to follow Him, so just like with any other crime you have to serve the time.
It is your choice. No one can make you do anything. You must follow Him in faith and believe in Him in faith. Faith is the evidence of things not seen.

It is not about just saying I'm sorry it is about truly being sorry and repenting. Example: Your son hits a baseball through your neighbors window, do you just make him go over there to apologize or do you make him apologize and then make him do chores to earn money to replace the window?
God knows our hearts, He knows if we are sorry after we've done something wrong. If we continue doing whatever we're supposedly sorry for, then the apology is worthless. At the same time God is merciful, He will always be there to accept our apologies.

No, I would not teach my children this way. They need to know what they did wrong, and to apologize for the wrong doing, but they do need to know why they need to be sorry. They also need to know that I will be there for them no matter what, not some book of rules that I expect them to follow, and then there would be no consenquences if they said they were sorry if they go against them.

God is not our parent; God is simply portrayed as patriarchal in the Bible, which was written by people trying to explain a difficult concept. I believe the idea of God the Father is an allegory or a metaphor, not the literal fact.

If you said I'M sorry to your father and were lying do you think he would not know. God knows what is in our hearts so your supposition is mistaken. Peace

Seek "Wisdom".
Stop finding faults.
Not only is scripture here, the Prophets are also, if you know where to search.
Develop what is known as a positive attitude.
"Peace be with you",

Im right there with you, man. Better to throw religion in the wind, and do whatever i think is best and right, rather then let somone else tell me how to live my life, and whether or not what i do is "moral."
Organized Religion is the biggest oxymoron of all time, figure life out for yourself!

God made the idea of Parents so why should his "parenting skills" go by your standards?
Oh btw, God only came and spoke directly to his people before Christ came, because then it was so much harder than it is now. They had to say sorry, and sacrifice an animal.

Who told you that God loved you? There are all sorts of people God does not love. Who said to you that God cared about everyone? He doesn't want some people, you know?
Maybe since you are asking, it's because you care about what God thinks? In that case maybe He does love you! Would you like to become a Christian?
