Although I use Yahoo, my pc does not have enough ram to support yahoo parental controls. So, I am stuck trying to find a freebie. I downloaded a great one the other day (parental control toolbar) and it was great! Problem was... It slowed my pc down to a snail's pace. I tried everything imaginable to solve the problem, but I had to uninstall the toolbar today- and finally my pc is runnin faster... Meanwhile, my very disgruntled 16 year old cannot use the internet until I find suitable controls that will not slow down the pc. Anyone know of such a program? For now, I need something $10 or less, or preferably free.

Thanks, for all who have replied so far. (Not me giving thumbs down, except to pervert thunderpants...)
Anyway, for some reason, my content advisor for explorer does not work. I've already tried it. And yes, I'm running XP home edition.

There is an Internet filter that I use. It's free. You can turn it off and on when you need to. It keeps the bad stuff off the computer I don't want my kids or me to see!

This snooping utility provides almost all the features essential for monitoring a PC, but we were especially impressed with its stealthiness. System Surveillance Pro logs keystrokes, IM chats, applications used, and Web sites visited, and can capture screenshots at periodic intervals. The interface makes it easy to locate any log file you need to access. System Surveillance Pro can block Web sites via URLs or detected keywords, and includes a scheduler in case you don't need to monitor PC usage at all times. Like most respectable spying applications, it will send you e-mail reports so you can keep an eye on your computer from a remote location. We doubt even the cleverest users will be able to detect the program while it's running or uninstall it. To open its control panel, you must use the Start menu's Run command, and even if someone finds the application, they'll still need your password to disable it. The utility can't be stopped via the Task Manager, nor uninstalled through the Control Panel or the Program Files folder. The seven-day trial period is too short for our tastes, but since System Surveillance Pro provides effective protection against even savvy folks, we still think it's a good find. There are Parental Control features built into Internet Explorer (if that's the browser your using). They can be found in Tools => Internet Options => Content. Then click on Content Advisor.

unfortunately everything you have running on your CPU is taking up available memory and slowing your CPU down. Parental controls and virus protection is a memory hog. Maybe try closing stuff that opens upon start up that you don't need. That would/should free up some memory. good luck.

Are you taller than your 16 year old? If so try a very tall desk. Is your 16 year old a girl? If this is the case try a decoy along the lines of a cell phone with several unread text messages in it. If he is a he try an X-Box or a porno.

If your computer is a WinXP or Via it allready has a parental control program you just need to turn it on.
