Risperidal (risperidone) is an anti-psychotic medication.

It is used for treatment of schizophrenia and related disorders. It can be sometimes used for people who have otherwise lost control and display uncontrollable behaviours - particularly in the elderly or in the drug intoxicated patient.

RISPERDAL® (risperidone) is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13-17 years; and the treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents aged 5-16 years.

RISPERDAL® (risperidone) is indicated for the short-term treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with Bipolar I Disorder, either as monotherapy or in combination with lithium or valproate in adults; or as monotherapy in children and adolescents aged 10-17 years.

three of my children take resperdal, for them it is used to treat they ticks (repeated voluntary or involuntary movements) caused by the meds they take for ADHD. I am sure like most meds their are several different uses.
