Yes, It's natural. Your puppy will probably start to do the same thing, but not because the other dog is doing it but just because it's natural. In fact, my dog scratches the door.

Who knows Shall, how our pets learn . . I think that they alreay know!
We give them such little merit . . My cat Sonia, does not knock or tries to turn the knob on the door, but she'll take a hold of my leg, if I am late to let her in, then gives me, one Vicious bite!!!
One time, so vicious a bite, I had to go to the doctor for some preventive to "something" shot!
When I do not call her Sonia, she deservedly is addressed by LEONA, by yours truly!
It buys me some time!
What an admirable FELINE!!!

I am sure your dog kocked only because he or she could not reach the door bell, but my dog is tall and always rings the door bell to enter, maybe your puppy will be tall also!LOL

One of mine scratches on the door & the other one sits there & Yaps. My childrens' Older Cat will scratch on the door to get to the litter box on the porch, & then scratch to get back in. If the pup hangs around your Knocker long enough, it's possible he could pick it up. The one of mine that scratches to get in, only does it after getting tired of waiting on me to let him back in.

my big black lab/ german shephard. you can just leave her outside and leave the door cracked and all you need to do is wait until she comes in(she pushes the door open herself) i find it adorable. My 2 year old never does this he waits at the door helpless but its just something that your dog prolly picked up
