I am 5ft 9in and weigh 250lbs. If I am trying to lose weight would that be safe for me?

that's not safe for any weight. You need to go see a dietician b/c. Everyone's body is different and you need all the nutrients you can get.

No, 1000 calories is too little for your body. You need to calculate it based on your BMR (basal metabolic rate- the rate at which your body burns calories based on your age, activity levels and your weight). Here's a site to show you how. Good Luck!

not for you...everybody's minimum caloric intake is different

the minimum caloric requirement is determined by the basal metabolic rate. this is the bare minimum amount of calories that "your" body needs to function at a normal level of efficiency. also drastic decreases in caloric intake shocks the body and the metabolic rate slows, it detects famine. you want to slowly decrease your calories over a period of time and only enough to facilitate weight loss.

you also don't want to increase your daily level of activity will simultaneously decreasing the caloric intake. you want to eat normally for several weeks while your body is adjusting to the increased level of activity. then you slowly decrease the calories over a period of time as you make changes to your diet, etc.
