I'd give something to the old staff, as a going-away gift (you never know where or when people show up again) and make certain to tip at the new building.

Why not combine/replace the tip with a Christmas present? It would be a nice farewell to the staff at your old place, and a nice greeting to the new staff. If you can only afford one, however, I think it would be more important to make a good impression on the new staff.

Remember, tipping is about being gracious, not how little you can get away with.

I'd say you'd get off on the right foot with tips to the staff in the building to which you are moving.

Tip the staff? Is that normal? I moved out of my apartment and never tipped the staff?! Why would you tip them, they make good money and got money off of you when you moved in?!

What is it with this tipping?! these people are not servers in a restaurant or pizza delivery guys. There is no reason why you should feel like you need to tip them. I wouldn't. HELL NO. keep those extra dollars in your pocket. Save it for a server at the next restaurant you dine in, believe me, they need it more than the staff at your apartment.

If you're moving out a month before Dec. 25, then you are not obligated to tip. I feel that you should tip the workers at the new building, though. It's common courtesy.

I'd say yes, simply because you want to get off to a good start with these people.

% to both, more to the old place, thanking them for the year of service, and % to the new place, hoping for a good year of service.
