Yes.
If they didn't! why would, for one, 138 Imams from around the world write him a letter! because they do take him very seriously.
Why would a whole nation riot against him because of what he says in his speech!
Why would the whole world televise the funeral of a pope, and the selection of the next one. if they don't!
Millions from different nations and religions came to John Paul II funeral, and millions watched it all over the world.
More than 200 world leader came to his funeral. Christian, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhist. etc.
Even Mehmet Ali Ağca who attempted to kill the Pope requested to go the funeral. The Pope went to his prison and forgave Mehmet Ali Ağca for trying to him.

Many people do, but I get the feeling that a lot more don't. Many Catholics, especially younger ones, distance themselves from many teachings of the Church and Church authority. The only time the Pope is mentioned during Mass is usually only once during the listing of prayers. Most Protestants, of course, feel no sense of commitment to the Pope or his teachings. The media distorts his messages and wonders why he releases documents on certain things (such as driving behaviors).

I believe that Pope John Paul II had the greatest reach, and it is hard to match his legacy.

Of course they do... millions, if not billions, take the Pope very seriously.

After the death of John Paul II, I was listening to a radio program where different religious leaders were discussing the impact that JP II had in the world.

It was a little off topic, but one Evangelist Minister said that if Space Aliens came down to Earth, and asked to be taken to the Christian Leader, he would have taken them to see the Pope. Maybe this minister was trying to score political points or merely saying something nice about the deceased Pope, but nevertheless I believe there is some truth in what he said.

Yes.

The funeral of Pope John Paul II on April 8, 2005 was the largest gathering of statesmen in all of history.

This is not done for people who are not taken seriously.
