want to get a membership in the gym to work with an instructor and get some muscle, but I feel intimidated since many of the guys working out in the gym are those jerky meatheads and a skinny lifting weights would be a perfect target for making jokes and stuff ( trust me, New Jersey is heaven for that kind of people lol ). A while ago i wasted money buying a weight set and a press bench but working by yourself is never the same than working out with an intructor since you dont have any idea about what you are doing. I really want to see results and Im willing to work really hard but the embarrasment to go to the gym is what is holding me back.
Any advice??

I live in NYC and been to many gyms - all people usually are too concentrated and self absorbed to pay attention to somebody else. Its all in your head.
Go to a respectable gym and you are gona be fine.

Get a workout partner to go to the gym with. Thats what most people do who are new to working out because it takes a lot of attention off of themselves and it makes it less boring. Also, just remember that people go to the gym to GET SKINNY not everybody is ripped or trying to be. Some people pray to be skinny like you. Also, you have to start somewhere, not everyone is ripped the second they walked into the gym. If you dont know what your doing heres some basics cause you dont necessarily need an instructor either. : 1.) Lifting heavier weights with less reps will build muscle (8-10 reps, 2-3 sets of your max weight). 2.) Lifting lighter weights with more reps will tone your muscle not build it. (10-15 reps 3-5 sets) 3.) Each day you go focus on a different muscle group ( legs monday, arms tues, back/shoulders wed, etc). 4.) Eat healthy food heavy in protein, and always allow a few days rest for the muscles to heal so they can build up. This is just the basics but should be enough to get you started -good luck.

The longer you let your embarrassment hold you back, the longer it will take for you to achieve your results.

Many of these pumped up jerky meatheads started exactly where you are right now! They might not admit it.

If you think you need to work with an instructor, go get yourself an instructor.

If you have a good instructor, you might not have to use the gym for sessions in between. You could use your own weight set at home.

Why do not you invite a pal or relative to the fitness center who's within the equal form as you, it'll take your brain off your possess ideas.

If you can afford a membership to a gym I guess you can afford a personal trainer and if that is the case then get one
and workout in the privacy of your own home.

bro just go meatheads are always gonna be there and plus you arent sure if they are gonna pick on you or not. try it out maybe you can get them to help you with your work out by telling them you want to look like them. just some crap like that. but make sure your ready to work out when your going.

go in the off hours...

this may require going either late at night or very early in the morning in the off hours when the place is dead. there is nothing easy about getting in shape, but the rewards are all well worth it.
