I work in a veterinary office and we always appreciate candies, coookies, etc. Homemade treats are the best.

I framed a picture of a St.Francis of Assisi that my husband took in Italy, it's now hanging in the vet's office - just the cost of the frame. Get a small dog biscuit jar, I've seen some really cute ones, and fill it with dog treats, my vet always hands out treats. I have a very terrific vet too.

It's been said numerous times, but cookies, cupcakes, fruit baskets, any thing edible is always appreciated. There are a lot of people who work together to provide the best care for your pet. The vet is the leader, but a leader isn't nothing without a good team to support her.
If you do want to get something just for the vet, a gift card to a nice local restraunt or to the movies would probaly be appreciated. Personally, the vet's I've worked for were always ecstatic about a picture postcard of the pet with a note on it. They usually post these around the lobby for years.
Other than that, a vet always needs referrals. ;)

I work at a vet and I can say that we ALWAYS appreciate it when people bring us goodies. And as others have mentioned, there are many staff members who work behind the scenes that you may not necessarily meet or see who help the vet keep things running smoothly. Chocolates are always nice, as are cookies or brownies (personally I prefer the home-made ones to store-bought but most vet employees are not as picky as me). Popcorn is also popular.
Even just a nice card or some flowers to brighten up the front lobby are appreciated. We have also had clients bring in unique framed items. One client had some fabulous pictures of her cat that she brought in (they looked like a professional photographer had done them!). Another brought in a picture of Eddy Murphy and the rats from Dr. Doolittle that had been autographed by one of the guys who did the voice for the rats (two of our three vets see exotics, including rats). Another client brought us a few tissue box covers that look like couches with pomeranian throw pillows on them.

A nice thank you card from you and your dog will be good enough, Vets always like to display the thank you cards for other clients to see. You can also send a box of sweets that the whole clinic can enjoy including the Vet techs. Like chocolate or cookies. Or bring in some homemade treats.

Where I worked we all (including the vet) loved when someone brought in 'people treats' a bowl or bag full of things to grab and snack on as you went by. We frequently missed meals, so our favorites were things to munch on the go. We also had several customers send a couple of pizzas at lunch time every now and then, and that was a big hit as well.

Bouquet of Flowers, Fruit Basket, a tray of cookies from a nice local bakery, I have even made my vet a homemade carrot cake in the past, nice box of chocolates would be fine too with a nice thank you card. I worked in a Veterinary office for several years and any of these items were always appreciated.

Find out what her outside interest are and go accordingly. Or buy her tickets to a play for her and her spouse. Or you could make up a gift basket with food, fruits, nuts and different items and leave it for the entire staff. There are so many people in the back that you never see, who help her accomplish the miracles that she does and they deserve to be recognized also.

chocolate!! Women LOVE chocolate! Get her a nice box of chocolate and a card with a pic of your dog in it! I know if I were a vet I would love it.
Bath and Body works gift card or something is a good idea as well so she can relax after work and not smell like dogs!

A couple of movie passes in a nice card would be appreciated, especially since sometimes they don't take the time to slow down and enjoy the small things in life. Don't forget the rest of the staff as they tend to do the unglamorous part of the work! Homemade cookies or some other treat for the staff is always appreciated!

Can she take a joke? A gag gift like a dog collar with her name, but bronzed/engraved. Or some nice gold plated or silver plated "dog tags" with her name. Does she wear scrubs or a coat? A nice name tag or lapel pin would be nice too. There's this place at the mall that sells all sorts of stuff and you can get them engraved. Thoughts for You or something like that.
Or you can just play it safe and get flowers, chocolate, spa stuff.
EDIT========
The name of the place is Things Remembered. www.thingsremembered.com
