I'm pretty old (28 lol!) and I realize that it must be hard to be a preteen/ teenager now, and know how to choose a wardrobe. The clothes that are out can leave a lot to be desired... or maybe too much being desired.
You should dress in a way that shows your own personality but shows that you have respect for yourself and those around you. If you realize that your shirt has comments or images on it that will make adults mad, it is likely not appropriate. Even if you think all adults are narrow-minded, you show maturity by respecting those around you.

If you are a girl, you should dress with the awareness that it doesn't take very much curve or skin to get a boy or grown man thinking about you sexually. Take a moment to think about whether you want that creepy guy you know from school, store, etc. thinking about you in a sexual way! YUCK is right! Men are visual by nature, so even if you think the low cut shirt is okay, a boy or man who is taller than you might get to enjoy too much of you! Even if you don't realize it, those tight or low rise jeans might give off the image that you are okay with your body being used in every boy's fantasy! That is not what you want. You are special enough to protect who can think about you sexually!!!
(The above does not serve in anyway to say that girls dressed provocatively are asking to be touched or sexually attacked! The boys still have to control themselves... but it is wiser not to even belittle yourself to the point where they are tempted.)
Clothes often distract from who you really are, so focus more on being the person you want people to see and less on wearing the clothes you think people want to see. Be fun, have fun and remember that one day you will be the old fuddy-duddy looking at 13 year olds saying "what were they thinking wearing that..."
;)

Totally modest. I'm not sure if some girls who don't dress modestly know that what they're wearing is tacky. I'm assuming they're dressing for the guys. Those guys just want to get into your pants. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with jeans and t-shirts at any age. A nice skirt and cute non-revealing top....no heels. Teens can get away with a cute skirt and sneakers or ballet shoes...etc.

Stick to what you'd be willing to wear in front of your grandma. That sucks, but there are some really cute things out there that will fit that bill. Someone above said to cover the hips, DO IT!!! I'm 27, and I can't stand seeing that on younger girls. It doesn't look attractive, and in fact for many of us "older" people, it says that you can't fit into your pants. Belly shirts are out, and so are such low cut pants that you can see whatever style of underwear you decide to wear for the day. You don't need to dress preppy if that's not your style, but be conscious about what is shown. Even if it sucks, buy that size larger pants. you won't look like a stuffed sausage in them, and you'll be much more comfortable. Have fun with your clothes, and show your personality in them, but don't wear anything that you wouldn't be caught dead in wearing in front of your grandma, or even great grandma.

Hope this helps??

With taste and class...
i.e. not like a whore.

Dress modestly; clothes that fit well but don't show off too much skin or look like they were painted on. Skirts that barely cover anything and shirts that leave a foot of midriff exposed are definitely a no for any age, especially a 13 year old. Ask your parents.

I think they should dress according to their own tastes, and within laws and regulations of whatever institution they are attending.
Uh, what about halloween costumes tho! OMG, I felt compelled to give this girl a dollar tip. She had high heeled boots, bootie shorts and a tied up shirt. Stripper alert!
I'm 27, when I was in middle school I pushed all the rules, including dressing in my pajamas. In private school, (where I inevitably endedup as I was kicked out of schools) I wore weird socks cuz that's all i could do to express myself.
Don't be a whore yet, that's for college and clubbing when youre 18.

Think of how you dressed 3 years ago and think about how you will dress in 3 more years, combine the two and voila, you have a decent, hip outfit :)

Oh one more thing...us "older people" (I'm 32 by the way) can't stand to see that muffin top thing at the top of girls LOW cut pants. Skinny or chubby this is SO unattractive...cover up the hips would ya ? :)

Good Luck!

Well I have a couple of nieces around the age of 13 and I believe they shoudl where what they want WITHIN REASON. What I mean by that is, I don not like cut-off tank tops in public or shirts that reveal your stomachs. I think if they want to wear mini-skirts, that is fine and that higheels are fine too. I just am really agansit cut-off tanktops.

my daughter comes home telling me of the what the people at school are wearing, one of her friends(which i do not like) wears no underwear with skirts that are about four inches above her knee. 13 year olds should be wearing skirts shorts or skorts that pass the finger test(has to be at your fingers if your hands are straight down), and shirts that are not v neck and are below the bellybutton. My daughter is 15 and I only allow her to wear shirts that are v neck if they do not show her cleavage. She has a very small figure, but I still do nto allow her to wear shrits that are higher than her bellybutton. Though on occasion I let her wear shirts that show her stomach.

In my opinion, ALOT (not all) of junior high girls try to grow up wayyyy too early, probably from seeing the media.
"Cleavage revealing tops, too short skirts, globs of makeup, (i'm sure you get the picture)

In my opinion, they should simply enjoy being a kid for as long as possible!
There are plenty of cute shirts, and pants/jeans out there for them to wear, so they look their age, and pretty at the same time!

Of course, that's just my opinion=]

Fashionable, fun, cute and with no flesh on show other than arms or legs in the summer....at 13 you look naturally loveley anyway and shouldnt need to expose lots of tummy or chest.
