I'm 16,i'll be 17 in june.
I've wanted to be a ranger since I was 8 years old hearing my uncle talk about it,but he has since passed away..
I'm not just trying to jump into this, and i'm not stupid.
I know it's gonna take major commitment, and I know what I'll have to complete to get in.
But i've been lifting and running everyday for almost 2 years now and while I can get the run down in way under the time limit,I can't even DO the 80-100 pushups/situps/pullups,let alone in 2 minutes or better..
I know it's endurance, but what can I do to get to my goal?
I just want to know honestly from either people who know someone who has,or a person that has, gone through the RIP and everything else.
please,any information is fine...
and thanks in advance..

It's not just physical, it will take everything mentally you can muster. No matter how I try to describe the training you will not undertstand until you have gone through it yourself. You can do everything right and guess what, you were wrong, do it again. Get used to that.

RIP isnt that hard bud.. youll be fine. as for the PT? just keep doing it.. youll get there.. youre only 16. i wouldnt do a whole lot of lifting right now. just keep up running.

as for your run.. dont run every day. it will do more harm than good. instead, you should run every other day. i typically run 3 times a week and do just fine running around a 12:30 2 mile. you should join the x-country team. that will do wonders for you when you get to basic.

pushups.. i do those every other day as well. one thing that helps me is pyramids. youll start out and do ten. give yourself 30 sec and do 9... and so on. when you get to 1, turn around and go back to 10. can get pretty tough by the end.

situps can be done the same way.

another thing i do from time to time is just do pushups for 2 min.. i dont count or anything.. i just dont take a knee until 2 min is up. even if you arent doing them anymore.. hold yourself up.

but the thing that got me to max my pushup score was the dumbell press. (bench press seemed to make my pushups lower).. light weights and high reps.. before i knew it i could knock out all the pushups i needed in well under 2 min.

also, here are the army pt standards... its preferred that you can score a 300 in order to get a slot for ranger school after you are already in the 75th as it can be competitive

also, i hope you arent afraid of heights or flying... cuz youll be doing a lot of jumping.

Also, keep in mind Rangers is about team work. When you get to the school, get along with the others and help out weaker, slower ones when you can. You want to show you are about the team.

Endurance is the key, so I would go for something like triathletes do: it's way more efficient in the long run - pardon the pun - than weightlifting.

Just keep doing what you are doing and it will be a breeze to you. Once out of high school go apply and be on your way. Good for you!
