I am going beyond your question as so many people that have never been in the military seem to want to answer these questions.

A Platoon leader is a Lt.. could be a 2nd Lt or a 1st. Could be in combat a Sgt is in that slot temporarily. That would be due to casualties.

A Company Commander is a slot for a Captain 0-3. 1st Lt's sometimes hold the slot.

I was only in the Army for 9 years so I could be wrong but I NEVER saw a Major (a field grade officer) as a Company CO (01-03 being Company grade officers). I believe the AF does put Majors in command of squadrons, perhaps an AF vet can clear that up. Majors in the Army and Marines are generally the Exec. Officer of the Battalion.

Depends on the service, and if engaged in combat or not, however usually both positions are officer grades, with the company commander being a rank of a Major or better and the platoon commander a rank of Lt. or better. The higher ranking enlisted are not commandeers of either, unless it is a combat situation and the need to fill the spot is immediate!
