I went to the alignment tab in format data labels (top), but it doesn't move them above the bars.

Help???

Right-click the chart, and choose Chart Options from the context-sensitive menu. Click on the Data Labels tab, and then choose "Value" from the choices available. That should automatically put these above your bars.

Sometimes the gridlines in the chart make it hard to read these. Once you have them in place, you can click on each one and then right-click on it to bring up another context-sensitive menu. If you select "Format Data Labels", you can add borders and/or fill colors or change the font to make them easier to read.

You mean a column graph?
Ok..
click on the bars in the graph
then right click.
select "Format Data point"
Under the 'Data Labels' tab
check the box for "category name"
ta-da the names will be on the top of your columns
