large wild cats in north carolina?

some people have been telling me about seeing a large black cat resembling a panther...is there or has there ever been a documented sighting

I'm in SC about 5 miles from the NC border, and have been hearing the same thing here. People swearing they've seen cougars( mountain lion/puma same thing) If they are here, I can't see any reason the black ones couldn't be too.(Although a black panther is actually in the leopard family I think , so maybe not) About a mile from my house a lady's almost 200 lb goat was mauled to death last week. Since black bear have also been all around here for the past couple of years, that's what they are saying they think killed it. I dunno though now that puma's have been sighted too, maybe it was one of them.

To actually answer, there have been documented sightings here of cougar,black bear,lynx,coyote,and bobcat. I haven't heard of an official one for a large black cougar like cat yet though,,,, just rumors.

Yes, I think the year was around 1992 in Clayton, N.C. My son,saw about a 60lb. silky black cat by the little creek behind our house and I heard it cry out with a very frighting growl. I later was told that it was impossible for them to survive here year round, so I am assuming that it had escaped from a circus or private collector.

save your canine on the brink of you on a leash and ensure to call the animal administration to catch that huge cat! sturdy success! P.S. its a wild cat or a feral cat. And wild cats should not be close to human existence with no reason or reason.

Not panther but maybe mountain lions with (Winter coats), bobcats, and pumas? mainly central America same with panther!??
maybe large 25 pound Farrel cats(once domesticated).
