Good question. biblical references say that the sun was blotted out, the earth moved (earthquake), the dead rose from thier graves and walked, and that the curtain to the holy of holies in the Temple was rent in two. there is no verifiable (forget the Josephus forgery--was way later)-evidence that any of the remarkable events happened in Jerusalem in that era. (Jewish historians certainly would have noted the curtain being rent in their most holy place), middle eastern, european, asian astronomers would certainly have noted and recorded eclipses, the sun being blotted out at any rate. something as spectacular as the dead rising and walking into town--would have been recorded in Jewish and Roman history. For something that extraordianry to have occured and found no record whatsoever--be like 9-11 going unreported by the media. We do know the crucifixition was a common death penalty in those days--there simply is no reasonable historical account of any of the other things that went along with the crucifixition of Jesus.

I'm not really sure why so many people will listen to historical books that claim something, but then question the validity of the Bible. The Bible is a historical book. The New Testament are books telling the history of what happened during that time. So, to answer your question, yes because more people have claimed to have seen Jesus die on the cross and raise again more so then people seeing apes turning into humans.

So what do you mean by historic proof?

Jesus's followers have believed since the 1st century that he died on a cross. For the Roman authorities, this was the usual method of torturing trouble makers to death, so the reports have credibility. There is more evidence of Jesus's life and ministry than there is for the existence of any other 1st century individual.

Of course there are people who say he didn't exist or that he wasn't crucified. This is wishful thinking to avoid the inconvenience of having to endure the good news that Jesus brought.

No. Things written in the Bible about Jesus and about creation have never been proven.

I am a Christian, but if I were to look at the Bible from a non-Christian's point of view - I would say that if the men who wrote the Bible are still alive and were taken in a court of law to prove the existence of Jesus and the manner he was executed, most of the things they will say would be thrown out as hearsay.

As far as I know there is no real evidence of this event. It is mentioned in the gospels in the bible but as far as we know the earliest of these was written some 60 years after the events. Also the 4 gospels in the bible were put in there by the leaders of the early christian church in the 4th century because they said what the leaders wanted their followers to believe. They left out the other 30 odd gospels some of which do not even mention the crucifixion. Of course crucifixion was a common roman method of execution so it is quite possible that a radical Jewish preacher could be executed that way.

Jesus (in hebrew Yeshu..In Aramaic Issa) did actually exist.Josephus, perhaps the most reliable sourse, gives him two lines. These two lines being written nearly 80 years after the event and are written as hearsay and not as fact. Josephus did however know Paul personally.
According to the bible Jesus family did have a stress disorder, know nowadays as death syndrom. In which stress causes the sufferer to appear dead. A form of eclectic shock. The bible also tells us that Aloes were taken into the tomb. Aloes are for the treatment of sunburn and open wounds. That seems to fit perfectly. Hanging in the mid afternoon sun after a good beating and being nailed to a cross, he would have needed aloes. Maybe not all the 100lbs that the bible tells us.
According to the chronicales of the kings of Kashmir Issa (Jesus) returned there and lived to the age of 84, doing good works and healing people. This fits with the tomb that is east/west and marked as Issa died aged 84. The inprint of the hands and feet show scars on the feet fitting with someone who had had their feet nailed down with the left foot over the right.
It is a great shame that the chronicals only say that Issa returned to his native land for three years, and give no mention of what happened to him while he was there.

Conclusion:- Jesus did actually exist, but didn`t die on the cross.
The pity is that no-one who actually knew him wrote an acurate acount which we have today, and all the accounts are only distant hearsay, With the exception of the Kashmir chronicals.

Yes. This follows the Roman way of execution from that time period. Hanging on the cross made it hard to breath so the person would try and push themselves up using their legs so they could take a breath. If the Romans were in a hurry and wanted the person to die sooner they would break the persons lower legs with a huge mallet so they could not push up any more to breath.

That Jesus lived is recorded in secular history.
(Historian Josephus Flavius)
That crucifixion was a frequent means of execution by the Roman Empire is well documented in world history texts.
And finally, the description of what Jesus went through physically is aligned with medical texts for afflictions and symptoms.
That Jesus' agony is aligned with those events and it's subsequent symptoms, is thoroughly explained in the Bible.

There has never been debate (at least not seriously) that Jesus was a real person, who did what he did, and died. The debate enters when Christian's claim he rose from the dead. There are many secular writings referencing Jesus at that time. Look at it from this point of view, even Jewish tradition states that Jesus performed miracles, etc. As I said, the debate surfaces on whether or not Jesus stayed dead. =)

In the book of prophets which i think Isaiah describes how Jesus would die 500 years before the Romans even thunk of crucifiction. The details of his death are similair to those who have died on the cross. He exsisted. Out timeline? Before Christ? if he didn't exsist we'd a totally diffrent time line
