Nytol One-a-Night is quite good. I use it occasionally as tend to get insomnia at this time of year when the seasons change. It can be bought over the counter at your pharmacy and has very little side effects. Its a horrible condition and you have my sympathies - very hard to explain to people that you feel like you're going mad due to lack of sleep - they tend to trivialise it. Hope you feel better soon.

What NOT to do, take any sleeping pills.

By the nature of what they do, inducing sedation, sleeping pills are a disaster! I spent 25 years NOT prescribing them. Take ANY sleeping pill for 3 nights in a row and miss it the forth night and you will already have noticeable withdrawal symptoms and greater difficulty sleeping. The average chronic user, 100% of whom are addicted, sleeps on average no more than 30 minutes longer than they did pre-medication.

Don't read, exercise or watch TV at least 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep as these are all brain stimulants. Take a warm, non-caffeine drink and put a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, you could also try a bath with lavender oil added.

Do not take Seroquel at all. This drug has a rare but serious side effect... Diabetes. I don't know what it does but it messes with your system bad. Don't take any pills if you can. My sister took that stuff and went from a skinny little twig and blew up. Then when she asked her doctor about it he took her off it and told her about the rare side effect. I am dead serious on this. This is what the doctor told my sister. I am not sure of the terminology but it is the type where you don't need insulin and have to watch blood sugar.

Don't take any medicine for sleeping. You'll get addicted to it and almost die. My brother is going through that right now. Just learn how to count sheep even though you're suffering with stress and depression. My brother did the samething and right now he's 31 years old, living with his girlfriend, doesn't have a job, and can die any minute.

They'll make you drowsy the nxt day so be warned. What about hot milk and tensing then relaxing your muscles before you nod off it works for me, good luck.

try warm milk and just relaxing....taking drugs to get sleep is no way to get restorative sleep because they prevent you from experiencing REM sleep. REM sleep is required to fully restore the body in sleep mode.

Temazepam is the best although its not prescribed in Scotland anymore.
If you want to avoid the doctor, try Night Nurse. It works..!
