Ok, I know this may be a personal subject to some, and please if it is, just skip this question and don't answer. I respect your privacy. However, if you are willing to answer some of my questions and have been in ANY war, please do so. And thank you in advance. If I may ask, I know some of you want to share so much, and I appriciate your willingness, but I need "short & sweet" answers, two senteces max. Thanks again.
The Questions:
1. Which War did you serve in?
2. Were you in the Army, Marine, Navy, etc.?
3. What was it like killing someone?
4. Would you ever go back out and be in War again?
5. What were you fighting for? Who were you fighting for?
Thanks!!!

I hate when people generalize the job of the Armed Forces. First of all, not all jobs in the Service are combat jobs, most of them in fact, aren't. Not everyone has killed, or had to kill, or has been in danger of being killed. Being in War is not like the movies, some people in Iraq never really even leave post. They can be mechanics, cooks, things like that. Now... The floor is yours Veterans.

1. Vietnam and the Cold War.
2. Navy. But, was assigned to all three Marine Divisions (and the Expeditionary Brigade to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis) during the course of my Navy career of 25 years.
3. Prefer not to answer. Most combat vets will take the same stance on that question.
4. Federal law prohibits my return to active duty from the Retired List because of my age. I found that out when I volunteered to return to active duty three days after the attack on America of September 11, 2001.
5. I was fighting to ensure that the two guys five meters or less on either side of me and myself would get out alive. And I was fighting in compliance with lawful orders given to me by the President and the officers and non-commissioned officers appointed over me.

I served in the first Gulf War.
United States Army
I don't think I can explain it other than we had a job to do.
If I were called yes I would.
Because my C-I-C ordered me too, that's what I was getting paid for.
