Any ideas on things to make for supper that are cheap to make? and fairly easy. I'm getting ready to make a grocery list for this month so any ideas would be helpful.

In Yahoo's food category - http://food.yahoo.com - there are a ton of recipes from all different sponsors. My favorite are the ones from Kraft. They're all easy and quick and relatively inexpensive. My favorite dish is the cheesy beef enchiladas. (The nutritional info is not sound, if that is an issue.) They make more than one meal, they're filling, and they're very customizable (I recommend putting in some refried beans).

Another good idea would be to make a big batch of soup or chili; those kinds of things freeze well, and you can always thaw out some for dinner.

cheesy pigs in a blanket: hot dogs with cheese on them wrapped in canned biscuit (like Pillsbury) and bake for 10 minutes. Kids love them. Serve with mac & cheese and a vegetable.

First of all, I usually buy those really good instant potatos that come in an envelope and taste like the real thing. You could make them the old fashioned way, though, but it's not as quick and easy:

Chicken noodle dinner (about $1) served over mashed potatoes. Serve with a vegetable and baked canned biscuits.

Bean burritos: spread refried beans on soft tortillas and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Roll up and lay in a baking pan. Smother with enchilada sauce and more shredded cheese. Bake. Then sprinkle shredded lettuce on top and serve with picante sauce. Also with spanish rice. You can make your own picante sauce by blending very very briefly a can of stewed tomatoes along with a spoon of juice from a jar of jalepenos. Also you can fry up some sliced tortillas in a hot skillet with olive oil and serve them on the side. Delicious with the homemade picante sauce.

Chili: 1/2 pound ground beef and 1/2 pound of ground turkey, 3 cans kidney beans, 1 can petite diced tomatoes, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 envelope of chili seasoning. Serve with cinnamon rolls and a wedge of cheese. (that's how my school always did it and I always want a cinnamon roll when I have chili!)

Scalloped potato cassarole: slice up some potatoes, put them in a cassarole dish and add Velveeta and some milk, and some cubes of ham. Bake for an hour at least at 375. Serve with green beans or some other vegetable. Stretches the ham so you don't have to come up with individual slices.

Tuna patties: mix up tuna with one egg, some diced onion and cracker crumbs until it easily forms a pattie. Then fry in olive oil until brown on both sides. Serve with a vegetable, rolls and a mashed potatoes with butter.
Good luck! Hope these help.

I love making chili...it's pretty cheap, it's super easy and it makes a ton, so there's always left overs. Pair it with some cornbread and you're all set! Spaghetti's always good too.

Mashed potato - instant or ready-made from the store.

Canned or frozen vegetables - a mix of different ones of your choice, add frozen onions or canned mushroom if you like.

Ready-cut chicken cuts (Purdue, Butterball, etc., have them in cardboard packages in your meat department or cold-cuts section). If you're a vegetarian, soy sausage or "hamburger scrambles" (soy scrambled hamburger for recipes).

One can of Campbell's cream of celery, cheddar cheese, cream of broccoli or cream of chicken soup OR one jar/can of chicken or mushroom gravy, depending on whether you're using chicken or soy.

Dump the potato in a big bowl. Dump in the vegetables. Dump in the protein of your choice. Dump on the soup or gravy.

Microwave the bowl, covered, for as long as it takes to make it good and hot.

Voila - a big, hearty, hot, meal.

(Substitute egg noodles of your choice, instant rice, or pasta if you prefer.)
