Why does this have to for boys only? I have known men and boys for a very long time and the answer to all of your questions is YES!!
Yes, boys AND most men, are a lot more emotional than they like to let on, as it isn't "manly" to show emotions.
Yes, guys flirt, but think about the one they really care about when they go to sleep at night.

i'd advise you not to generalise. if you have a seemingly tough guy he's surely got a soft spot - if you have a lovey-dovey guy, you wouldn't want to find out that he's more emotional than he seems, would you?
but truely, guys are possessive and want to be loved. its probably okay to talk about ex's if youre in an early stage of a relationship (like he is trying to 'court' you by showing you that he's easy to talk to), but seriously, if you are in a more intimate relationship and you are still talking about ex boyfriends, you are being inconsiderate.
