Since its the Holiday season why not make some kids Christmas dreams come true and get the needy some christmas gifts. You might get some local churches involved to help find which kids and the school teachers always know which kids are so poor that they will not have much of a Christams. Good Luck!!!

Contact your local Exchange Club. They can help you set up an Excel Club at your high school and work with you on a wide range of community service projects.

The Exchange Clubs have a national project, the prevention of child abuse with over 120 Child Abuse Prevention Centers nationwide. They know a lot about helping young people in your community and would be delighted to have you participate with them.

I help graduating 6th graders do murals each year on the ball walls at some of our local schools. I paint the mural but each child gets 20 minutes to help-my son and daughter helped too last year. We had a great time (four kids at a time-the paint can be donated many times-use exterior paint-check with local Home Depots and paint shops for missmixed paint they can't sell.) Many kids at the local school are immigrants, have never done artwork or even used a paint brush-they were great! (this could be for a community center too or a park
Also check out The Cradle Project on the web-whole groups can do this too-but its donating a handmade cradle to a group in Albuquerque to be displayed and then auctioned off for monoies toward aids orphans in Africa. Full info, how-tos for projects-background info and all

See if you all can mentor elementary school children. Go & help with reading, study skills & just encouraging them. The school counselor probably has a list of children that could benefit from having a mentor. Most elementary children would feel so special to have a high school "buddy" to come & spend time with them.

Make pop-up books or pop-up cards. You can get books on how to do it at the library. That's all I can think of if you can't actually go into the hospital, you can still drop them off to cheer the children up.

Our school did The Pencil Project and it is really easy and very rewarding when you think that one pack of a dozen pencils can help 12 kids!!!
