I am 21 and I asked my voice teacher about the "breathiness" quality to my singing voice. She said that in graduate school she learned that females go through a slight voice change like males however, it does not occur during puberty. Instead from about 16-22 years of age your voice develops and often loses the breathiness quality.

I am wondering if other people have heard of the same thing and if anyone knows any articles about this that I could read. Thanks!!

The female voice definitely goes through a change, especially the female singing voice. Your voice will probably sound quite different in four years than it does now. Every voice is different, though, so, while some voices will loose certain traits (breathiness, for example), those traits could stay the same in other voices.

Look up articles on vocal pedagogy.

mmm.... all i can think of is Neutral Milk Hotel's Song Against Sex has a cough and a "huh?" at the start. Wait! Fitter Happier by Radiohead has to be a pretty unique vocal. If you can call it a vocal. Oh also at the end of Little Room by the White Stripes, Jack goes a bit crazy with the "de hee da dada da da na na".... i can't type it.... BA: Stressful. New school, new town, new stepdad and stepbrother, it's all change :(
