The metabolytes for nicotine can be found in your body for up to a year. Is this for insurance? If so I'd wait for quite a few months before applying as a nonsmoker. You can get your coverage as a smoker for a premium.
The year would be for someone who has smoked for years, not just a social smoker.
Plain ole nicotine is just 48-72 hours.

This ad says the product tests for another chemical in cigarettes, not nicotine directly, and can detect cigarette use up to 4 days ago:

I am not sure that stays in your system, you mean for test? I don't think that shows up in tests. And I am not sure it goes out just goes to your lungs
