What are the steps in making a custom guitar paintjob?

Say I have a blank unfinished body and I want to put a sweet psychedelic painting on it, such as Clapton's famous SG: http://www.saiichi.com/assets/JPEG%20IMAGES/15_fool_sg_closeup.jpg

What are the steps that I must follow to complete this task? What kind of paint can I use and do I just find a clear finish (nitrocellulose) to put over the color layer? Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that if you have to ask that here you have the skill to do it yourself?

Anywayzzzz:
Sand and prime. Use a spray primer as you want to get this as smooth as possible. Sand and prime again.

If you want to use nitro-cellulose as a finish you are limited in what paints you can use. (bit weird choice if you are not going for the wood look finish but you are the boss)

Use car paint. You can get very small tins and the colors work pretty nice both as working stuff as wel as when it is dry.
