Gordon's hasn't been running that great the last few races and complaints of poor handling cars are common. If the 24 bunch wind up losing the championship, do you think Letarte will stay on as crew chief? Personally, I think they need someone more aggressive like Knaus or Evernham in the old days. I wonder how well Steve Letarte is sleeping these days. What's your take?

Shoot, I would've thought at least one Gordon fan would agree that he needs to be leading more laps and not getting creamed so badly by his teammate.

Are you kidding me? He's having one of the best seasons of his career. They're taking "bad cars" and turning them into top 10 finishes. The fact that people are calling seventh place finishes bad is a testament to how good this team really is. Steve Letarte isn't going anywhere, unless it's a promotion.

EDIT: He may be getting creamed by his team mate, but it's not because he's doing a bad job. It's because his team mate is on one heck of a roll. Take the Jimmie Johnson factor out of the equation, and ask if you still think Steve Letarte is doing a bad job. You can't fire a crew chief because another team gets on a winning streak.

I think what you may be missing and that is with the 24 car Jeff calls the shots and with the 48 it really is a collaberation but push comes to shove Jimmie defers to Chad.Wasnt long ago when Jimmie and Chad clashed on those decsisions. Not a problem any longer. But really!!! with the season Jeff and Letarte have had together if they dont win the championship it will be because Chad and Jimmie are that good.Certainly no shame or blame for the #24 they have had a great year to date and havent finished worse then 11th in the chase. No Letarte will be at HMS long after Jeff hangs up his helmet, probably the crew chief for Jr. and dont hand the trophy to Jimmie to quickly 30 points is one dropped lug nut from going away.

shoot, Steve letarte is doing a great job. I just think Johnson is a better driver and Chad Knaus and Johnson have great chemistry together. Gordon is leading the top 10s this year, so he is having an awesome season. But man to man, Johnson is more aggressive when it comes to the closing laps.

Heck Steve is having a great yr with Jeff..Steve is not going anywhere.. Its just alittle bit of racing bad luck out there...A ton of drivers out would love to have Steve Letarte as a crew chief. He's probably not having the best nights sleep, true, probably trying to figure out how they can beat the 48..

Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008

Steve Letarte isn't going any where, if anything Jeffy needs to calm down alittle bit, and stop yelping so much and tell his crew cheif what is going on istead of bit-ching, he needs to relax and tell Steve what the problem is and fix it just like Jimmie does that's all the pressure is much higher for Jeffy, so he's alittle more up tight!! GO 48 GO

YES! Glad someone else agrees. Yes steve is good BUT whenever gordon has an alright car and johnson doesn't steve will be there to say "lets switch set ups" and guess who wins Jimmie. Can't stand Jimmie or steve.

Heck no, I mean he had the competition smoked before they got to the chase and evened everyone back out on points. He has had a dominant season and the chase is the only way that Johnson has caught him. I know it doesn't matter but if he doesn't win the championship it will be the second that the chase format has robbed from him.
