Here's a quick summary of what I've read in several books:

1) Generally, you already know that God has called you to do what's expected of every Christian. You can practice the virtues of love, kindness and compassion wherever you are and whatever you are doing. You can pray and read the Bible and attend worship. You can be a good child/wife/husband/employee. You can be truthful, chaste, brave, faithful and a good witness for Jesus Christ. There's enough here to keep ALL of us busy for the rest of our lives :).

2) Particularly, you can pray and ask God to lead you down the path that is right for you. Some of the old authors give these hints:
a) Is this path Biblically and morally right or sound? (i.e. sins such as adultery or working as a drug-dealer would NEVER be right)
b) Seek godly counsel. What do other godly Christians or my parents think about this path?
c) When I pray, do I feel at peace about this path?
d) Are "doors opening" for this path? If the door closes, it may mean that you just have to wait for a while, or it may be a firm "no."
e) Does this path use my God-given talents, interests and abilities? [One author suggests trying different fields and seeing which area people say you seem to have a talent for: do they praise your teaching ability? Are you great with kids? Do you have a talent for cooking, or coaching soccer? God may call you to "stretch" your comfort zones a little, but I don't think he tries to make a street-corner preacher out of a person more suited to translating the Gospel into Swahili.] You can also take personality tests to find out which areas/careers/missions you might enjoy and be good at.
e) Do I feel strongly led by God to pursue this path?
f) If neither path is clearly wrong, and you don't know which one to choose, you may eventually just have to make a choice and trust to God for the results. We walk by faith, not by sight.

3) You probably won't know all the wonderful things that God is preparing for you to do in the future. Here's two encouraging stories for you.

A local lady works as activities director at a local nursing home. She takes her job very seriously and tries to give the nursing home residents lots of activities. It seems that when she was a child, she visited an elderly relative in a convalescent center and thought how dull and boring it was. She didn't think about this for many years, but it's affected her desire to do her job well.

I grew up on a 400 acre farm. I HATED some of the dirty, hot farm work and when I left the farm I never thought I'd deal with livestock again. I didn't dreamed that I'd be using the knowledge I gained to teach kids about farm life AND that I'd be using some of the animals as "therapy" animals.

God bless you. I'm sure that He will use you for His glory!

repent of sin and walk with the Lord in holiness and faith.....then what you ask he said he would give you your hearts desires....if it is of good report naturally.
Ask him and wait and listen and talk to him often.....he will direct your paths and decisions.......you will know what he is directing you to do and then work at it with all your heart....there will always be days that everything does not go well but God will be with you as you believe and walk with him
