When I was five, my first cat adopted my family. She was white; I named her Snowball (bless her fuzzy little heart; the first and best cat I ever had).
When I was in high school, the next cat adopted us. She was black. We tried naming her something else, but someone carelessly suggested Blackball as a joke, and uh-oh, it stuck.
The next adopter arrived shortly thereafter. She was a grey and white tabby. Mom tried valiantly to name her something else (I believe "Kiki" was her choice) ... but alas, the name that stuck was ... Grayball.
My current fuzzball came from the kill shelter. She's blue. And yes, her name follows in the grand tradition of her "_____ball" predecessors ... poor thing (although the vet and groomer know her as "Blue" for short).
Husband named the boy cat -- his name is Buddy (because husband [also a lame pet namer] calls all cats, dogs, and other animals "buddy.") 'Fess up -- does your cat have an objectively silly name that just, well, *stuck*?

I've had/ have some with the most ridiculous names on the planet. Although I do confess that after all of your "ball" names I felt somewhat less lonely after reading your post.
Stupid things that we've named after observing their behavior and being clueless what to name them......
Siren...because he screams like one
Sideways...because she ran that way when she was young
Squeaker....because...duh
Leaky...big abcess on the neck, just a lil guy with no name..it was gross and yes, it was leaky!
TriPod...yeah, she's missing half a leg
LiveWire...I have absolutely NO clue
and my all time favorite
EyeSpy the cat. I have no explanation for that one either..and no, we don't smoke dope....LOLOLOL
Crook...it's a tail thing
I had an opossum... Theo Possum...get it... The Opossum. I put a lot of effort into that one. NOT.
I have a cat, I tell you no lie...who we call Junior....his name is actually Junior Minty.

Yuppers. Our cat is simply named Kitty. She came with the name Apple, but I don't know why, she's gray! When I was younger we had a cat named Spaz, cause well, she was spaztic! My parents were adopted by a cat, and he was named Hobo cause he was a stray, but at the time my niece was only 3 and she would say Elbow instead, so that name stuck. Had a cat named AC because she liked to lay on the air conditioner unit. A cat named MC, short for My Cat, she's called Emmie, and finally a cat named PITA, and not after the bread! (Pain in the ****) . Friends of ours have a cat with 6 toes on each foot, his name is Six.

Your post made me laugh! I have a female cat called TC who I named after the tom cat in the old US cartoon series 'Top Cat'. I never felt embarrassed by this until I recently joined some other net groups for help with a medical condition she has. There are other cats called TC on these groups but all except mine are male! So it causes some confusion & even vet staff annoy me by referring to her as "he" a lot of the time! Thing is though - TC is the ONLY name I could've given her. She's the alpha female of our house who rules all around her - a personaity trait that was obvious even when she was a tiny kitten!

My first cats, brother and sister, were named Harold and Maude, like the movie. Some of my friends thought those were awful names. I have two more cats now and they are Miki and Merlin. However, I find myself calling them Sneakers, Stinky-butt, Peanut, etc. They answer to all the names.
I guess whatever works works! At least you didn't name them Cat or D.O.G. which I've seen others do. You have a nice tradition as far as I can tell, but you just may run out of colors. lol

My cats have had some very exotic names and titles, such as Emperor Maximillian, and Tuffy S. Quire. (We just called them Max and Tuffy.) But I have also had some with very silly names, like Side-Walker. The darn cat walked sideways like a crab, so that name stuck unfortunately.
My current brood is Julie, Grae, Ziggie, and Rollie. (Buggie, unfortunately, is no longer with us.) And I had a dog named Boston.
It's not always easy to come up with a name, and we tend to name them whatever pops into our heads. At least the names you chose were unique--lol.
By the way, my very first cat (I was 3 yrs. old) was also Snowball.

Actually I'm pretty bad with alternate names for cats, example my family had a large orange tabby for years named Heatchcliff, however for the last 10yrs of his life (god I miss that cat he ruled) he was always reffered to as Lump because he'd be in the same place for hours.
Now I have a large orange cat named Garfield, that everyone simply refers to as Tub-Butt (come on when he lays down he's close to a foot wide). I also have one named Simba, who's original name was Mr. Orange(believe me no one in this house would name a cat that), I've started calling him Mr.S now.

My best friend named her cats Tom Cat and Allie Cat which I thought was pretty cute. My current 2 are Millie and Lilly. I have also had Tina (I named her when I was about 4), Barney (Rubble not the dinosauer!), Jazmine, and Abbey. My mom isn't so creative with Callie (yes, she's calico!). My husband's cat growing up was Fred. I wouldn't worry too much about what other ppl think of the names you give your cats. As long as they are loved and you say it with affection, they will answer to anything!

My first cats were called Fraidy and Flowerpot.
Fraidy, cause I thought "scardy cat" was "fraidy cat"
Flowerpot, cause I thought it was a cute name, I'd wanted to name my baby sibling Flowerpot if the baby was a girl. Thankfully I got a brother
My next door neighbors growing up had two cats named Poopy and Cowboy. They lived in a cookie cutter house and thus we named those houses Poopy Cowboy House.

I too was adopted by a cat. She never purred when she decided to move in with me, so I used to say to her "Are you grumpy?". The name stuck, so despite my mother wanting to re-name her Lucky, she has remained Grumpy (it makes the vets laugh). Even now, she purrs very little and when I speak to her, she usually wags her tail, so yes, I am bad at naming my (first) cat, but I think the name suits her.

I had a stray tabby cat who used to sit on my doorstep miaowing. So we adopted him and called him 'Tabby stray'. I had another cat with big paws (they were gorgeous). He got named 'Big Paw'. Took in a black cat a couple of years ago... Yes, he's now called Blackie and sometimes Blacksie, for a bit of variety! :) He should really be called 'Miaow' because he NEVER stops talking!
