Because a lot of people would try to do it when they're drunk and just want more booze?
Drinking/driving... not a good combo...?
Groups of drunken people are very stupid you know.

Probably because we are such alkies the law don't trust us not to just open the bottles/cans right there and start drinking on the way home.

It would encourage drink driving

We have enough problems with obesity as it is. If people can't even be bothered to get our of their cars to buy a drink it would make things worse

service is too slow - we'd have to drive through 4 or 5 times for the youth apprentice scheme idiot to notice us / ask what we wanted / get the right product / get finger out of nose.

I don't htink it's THE law. It's more likely lack of space, inability to meet planning and building regulations. You need SPACE to do this kind of thing. Places like USA and Oz have space - we haven't.
