the receptionist at the clinic said that if i wait to bring her in until Friday (when i get paid) that she might have to start over with the shots--meaning i basically wasted money on the first round--but the vet will have to determine whether to do the booster or a new set... (based on her size, age, etc) so i'll have to bring her in to get looked at (and pay an extra office visit fee rather than just get her the shots & pay for those)

is this true? on Friday it will have been 5 weeks since the first shots. she's just over a year old, and small.

anyone have any clue if i'll have to start her shots over or not??
this is a new vet (moved recently), so i don't know if they're as reliable as my previous vet.

thanks!

they will only take full payment at the time of service. no exceptions. and i can't use a credit card.

they said she needed a booster 4 weeks after the initial set, but a couple days late wouldn't hurt.
they're her first shots ever. (i think it was the 4 in1, rabies, & distemper? i don't have the sheet on me right now)

she didn't have her kitten shots, these are essentially those.
(she was an outside stray i fed for quite a while & ended up fully taking in a few months ago when i moved) i'm pretty certain she has had NO previous shots.

(btw, when i started feeding her she was a kitten, maybe 3 months old at the most. and from a rural area, where people don't usually take cats to the vet.)

I think that's ridiculous. If the cat is over a year old she has probably had the intitial kitten series (the most important).

Overvaccination is more harmful for your cat than anything they might protect her from. Please go to: http://www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Vaccination". It is one of the last ones in her article library.

You can also go to: http:www.animaltalknaturally.com http://critteradvocacy.org to learn more about the issue of animal vaccination.

I can't answer your question about timing, but I can make a couple of suggestions:

first - can you put the treatment on a credit card? That way, you can pay it when it's more convenient to you.

Second - will the vet accept a check, if you tell them that it will have sufficient funds in the account for it to clear on Friday?

Third - will your vet do the work for you now, and wait until Friday for payment? Or can you pay part of it now, and the rest on Friday?

we were told by our vet that a week late is OK for a booster, they over lap a bit to keep the cat covered, you should not have to do a complete course again as your cat should have had the full set as a kitten, don't let your vet bully you into a new course, i would phone another vet and ask their advice but take your cat Fri.

I do not believe you will have to "start over". When my cat was getting his shots before he was to be fixed, I know there was more than a 5 weeks in between.

If you are concerned about it, call your old vet and get their advise. When in doubt, don't trust the receptionist, trust the vet.

That's rediculous.
I never took my kitten in for her shots on the exact day they told me to and it wasn't a problem.
It really doesn't make a difference to take her in a few days later.
I think you need a new vet though..all they want is money.
