It's my lip that i have pierced, and i'm pretty sure its infected. I only got it done friday, and it has this faint red circle on the outside, which im hoping is normal, seems how its so recent. But it also gets this scab thing growing over it sometimes, and it pains the outside to move, cause it rips off my lip. The inside hurts when i move the hoop around too. I'm by NO means taking it out cause i wanted this piercing for EVER, and now i finally have it, and i need to know how to take SUPER SUPER good care of it, and tips for it to heal faster. I don't smoke, and i don't pick at it. (Even though it gets annoying) And i rinse my mouth after i eat ANYTHING. And..I'd like to know why the swelling isn't going down, and why it feels infected..I twist it around with my tounge, and im wondering if thats bad.. What are some ways for it to heal faster? Maybe i'm worrying too much.. It needs time, i know. But its getting SORE and ITCHY! Wasn't like it yesterday or friday.. I'm freaked.

Do you wash your hands before you clean it? Are you following the instructions the person who pierced it gave you? Did you go to a proper place (tattoo parlor) to get the piercing done? You cannot do anything to make it heal faster. It takes up to three months before it is healed, and that is if you properly take care of it. This link has all the information you need about taking care of your piercing.

If it doesn't begin to get better, you may have to go to the doctor and have to take it out. Just don't take it out until you've seen a doctor or went back to the place you got it pierced to see if there is anything you can do to make it stop hurting. Pain is normal the first few days. You should not move it around with your tongue. Swelling is also normal.

Wash it with antibacterial soap (like Dial) twice a day and put a dap of Neosporin on the outside after you wash it. Rotate the hoop through the hole at least 4 or 5 times a day so it doesn't get crusty. Rinse out your mouth with Listerine if you have anything but water. You can suck on an ice cube to help with the swelling and discomfort.

There is a chance that this piercing was done under unsanitary conditions. If that's the case then no amount of washing and disinfecting is going to make it heal. Take it out and see a doctor if it starts to smell bad, has a yellowish or greenish fluid leaking from it, if the swelling doesn't start to go down in the next 24 hours, if it stays really red or feels warm to the touch or if you get a fever. I know you love your piercing, but you won't love it anymore if it makes your lip rot off.

It hurts because you are twisting it! Quit playing with it and let it heal. Put some Anbesol on it to numb it, and leave it alone for the rest of the day. Turn it ONCE at bedtime and then leave it alone. Tomorrow, go back to turning it a few times a day but NO MORE than that.
