I have a cat and a dog who I love equally. As far as species go though, I would have to vote for cats. They are like little humans in fur costumes. Their mannerisms, their attention to you, and their intelligence makes them too great for words. My cat follows me everywhere and she's always ready to be sarcastic about whatever the dog or I am doing...

In general I prefer Dogs.. big dogs.. (My favorites are Irish Wolfhounds and Giant Schnauzers)
but really, when looking to get one I did not focus on those breeds.. I went to rescues and met dogs of various kinds.. (and ended up with a beagle/basset mix)
although, I found a stray cat that was a savannah/bengal cross hybrid.. she was awesome..

I like dogs better and I have no size preference whatsoever. I have a 60 lb Siberian Husky and a 6 lb Papillon. A dog is a dog is a dog is a dog.

I like dogs better because they crave attention- whereas cats could care less if you're there or not, unless you're feeding them. I like Medium sized dogs. My last dog was a chow/white german shepard mix-BEAUTIFUL!
