question for dodge man . my neighbor has a 97 dodge ram which i do most of his maint on truck looses coolent it is not visable where can it be going besides out the exaust . not going into the oil either . 318 ci

check the thermostat and check the timing cover on the sides. these 2 areas are common leak places that will not neccesarily leave drops on the ground.

I would bet the intake gaskets are bad, has been an issue on 318 & 360 motors for quite a while. If the intake gaskets are bad it could be leaking coolant into the intake port resulting in the coolant being burnt with the fuel.

Buy or borrow a pressure tester leave on for about
1/2 hr pressure around 15lbs see if leaks down>And if leaks coolent>

Check the t-stat housing, they are steel and like to rust thru...if it's a slow enough leak, it burns off or evaporates before leaving a visible drip on the ground...follow the upper rad. hose to the engine to find the housing...it's buried behind the alt. and a/c, you'll need a good flashlight to see a leak...it'll be puddling around the housing on the intake.
