My female pup (lab/chow mix) lives with me in my apt. and lovesss to play with other dogs. Other dogs around the apt. are very small and timid so playing with them is out of the question. This past weekend i took my pup home and she played with my aunts' 60 lbs. aussie-she had a blast and she was pretty rough with her. I am just afraid that another dog might not be so nice with her at the park cause she is only like 15 lbs.- she has gotten her second round of shots and has been dewormed, so how safe is it to take her to a dog park? what age is best appropriate?

I take my 4 month old dog to the park frequently. The main thing that I wanted to make sure before I did that was to make sure he had his rabies shot tag on. If you are going to take your puppy where they look for such things, you may find that not having one will get you penalized. Getting a disease from one of the dog is a pretty remote chance since most of the vaccinations have done a good job of making those diseases rare. My primary concern will be fleas/ticks.

Therefore, my suggestion will be to take the dog there if you think he is free of any contagious factors. Now is the time to get him socialized. All the best!!

I'm not a fan of dog parks in the first place. Anyone can take any dog there and you won't know if it's an unsafe situation until it's too late. She is very young for such an experience and can get sick easier, even though she has had her second round of shots. Try to have her socialize in with other dogs in a controlled environment, like puppy kindergarden.

I took my dog to the park starting at 3 months. He had a great time and never caught anything. As long as your pup has had his Parvo shots, you should be just fine. Just try to keep him in a small dog area for starters. My pup is a toy breed, he was only 3.5lbs when I took him, but he didn't have any problems at all.

I have heard a ton of stories about puppies getting attacked by adult dogs at dog parks lately. I, personaly, wouldn't take a puppy to a dog park.

I would not take any pup or dog to a 'doggie park' until it was fully immunized, that includes rabies.

I wouldn't take her until she has had ALL her vaccinations.
I'd be more worried about Parvo or Bordatella than other dogs hurting her in play.
Wait until she is finished with her vetting to be safe.

No. Not until the Parvo shots take effect.
